The Associate is a key member of the Bank’s Hospitality Finance Group, collaborating with the Relationship Manager and Portfolio Manager to deliver well-structured loan solutions for hotel real estate customers across the U.S. In partnership with RM/PM team, the Associate is instrumental in the underwriting process for new hotel-secured loans, including collection of due diligence materials and preparing financial models and risk/return analysis. The Associate will also work closely with the Portfolio Manager to complete written annual reviews and renewals, re-document as necessary, and ensure loan covenants are monitored timely.

The Commercial Banking Associate position is a key member of the Bank’s Hospitality Finance Group, collaborating with the Relationship Manager and Portfolio Manager to deliver well-structured loan solutions for hotel real estate customers across the U.S. In partnership with RM/PM team, the Associate is instrumental in the underwriting process for new client credit opportunities, preparing financial modeling and risk/return analysis for hotel-secured commercial loans. The Associate will also work closely with the Portfolio Manager to complete annual reviews and renewals of hotel-secured loans, re-document as necessary, and ensure loan covenants are monitored timely. Maintains and promotes a client service environment to satisfy and exceed customer needs and expectations.

  • Develops credit and client information to make lending decisions on new, renewal and extension loans.
  • May participate in on-site client visits with other internal stakeholders.
  • Evaluates clients’ ability to repay loans and consults on loan structure and collateral.
  • Provides accurate financial analysis and risk/return assessment of new and existing customers.
  • Prepares written memos to present facts and offer opinions concerning credit worthiness.
  • Identifies trends in client activities which may be predictive of deteriorating credit quality.
  • Monitors loan covenants to identify deteriorating credit conditions and loan compliance.
  • Performs periodic loan reviews where more frequent monitoring may be appropriate.
  • Minimizes BMO’s risk exposure by adhering to internal credit policies and procedures with respect to lending decisions.
  • Builds effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders.
  • Maintains and promotes a customer service environment which meets and exceeds customer needs and expectations.
  • Focus is primarily on business/group within BMO; may have broader, enterprise-wide focus.
  • Exercises judgment to identify, diagnose, and solve problems within given rules.
  • Works independently on a range of complex tasks, which may include unique situations.
  • Supports the execution of strategic initiatives in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.

    Qualifications:

  • Typically between 4 - 6 years of relevant experience, preferably in commercial banking, and post-secondary degree in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Technical proficiency gained through education and/or business experience, preferably formal credit training from a commercial bank.
  • Verbal & written communication skills - In-depth.

  • Risk management/portfolio management - working knowledge.
  • Data driven decision making - working knowledge.

Compensation and Benefits:

$67,200.00 - $96,000.00

The base salary represents BMO Financial Group’s hiring range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as location, skills, experience, and qualification for the role. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked.
