Job Overview
Hoxworth Blood Center (HBC), University of Cincinnati, was founded in 1938 and serves more than 30 hospitals in 18 counties in Southwestern Ohio, Northern Kentucky, and Southeastern Indiana. Annually, Hoxworth collects more than 100,000 units of blood from local donors to help save the lives of patients in area hospitals. Hoxworth Blood Center: Saving Lives Close to Home. HBC is located within the College of Medicine and is the only Regional Blood Center owned and operated by a University in United States.
The University of Cincinnati, College of Medicine, Hoxworth Blood Center, is recruiting a Biomedical Specialist 3 to ensure that organizational processes, procedures, and quality control activities are compliant with accreditation and regulatory standards.

Essential Functions
- Perform organizational equipment validation, requalification, and quality control in accordance with accepted standards and regulations for major critical storage and non-storage equipment.
- Provide organizational support for preventive maintenance and calibrations on storage equipment and devices.
- Support management with equipment related investigations of advance complexity, repairs, installations, validations, requalifications, documentation, and record management and retention.
- Assist with organizational quality and variance programs. Adhere to good manufacturing practices (GMP) guidelines.
- Maintain technical competency to cover equipment quality control as needed. Develop new technologies, training and maintenance processes.
- Assist Manager with recognizing, monitoring and evaluating technical, instrumental or physical conditions or problems.
- Assist with monitoring and evaluating QC related procedures. Establish and maintain equipment SOPs as needed.
- Responsible for the centralized equipment management program ensuring compliance with current standards and regulations.
- Support Hoxworth Blood Center’s safety, cGMP and Quality Plan.
- May provide direct and/or indirect supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.).
- Perform related duties based on departmental need. This job description can be changed at any time.
Required Education
- Associate’s Degree.
- Nine (9) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.
Required Experience
- Seven (7) years of equipment repair, preventive maintenance and quality control.
