Dow Plastics Additives (DPA) has an exciting opportunity for an Associate TS&D Scientist or TS&D Scientist, located in Collegeville, PA. In this fast paced, customer-facing technical role you are a member of a customer account team and will partner with technical team members, sales, and marketing to expand market share for existing products and commercialize new innovations to grow and defend existing business. You will be responsible for leading technology and business delivery to support customers to advance growth and drive increased EBIT profitability for a diverse plastics additives portfolio.
You will have a strong customer-first mindset with excellent communication and technical skills to ensure our customers receive exceptional technical service. You will receive significant external industry exposure via presenting frequently to customers at relevant tradeshows and conferences and be responsible for working across Dow functions and businesses to find solutions to our customers most pressing challenges.
The primary market alignment for this role will be in Building, Construction, and Infrastructure, with a focus on PVC applications. In addition, new business development in engineered thermoplastics and thermoset materials is key to DPA’s Seek Targeted Growth strategy. Through market intimacy, scouting, and customer collaborations, you will gain insights around performance gaps and identify new opportunities where DPA can offer a technical solution and thereby expand its product offerings in an array of application spaces. In addition, you will turn these insights into new projects that seed our innovation pipeline.
Responsibilities
- As part of a broader TS&D team, provide technical leadership to important business accounts, respond to technical questions from customers, promote products, connect customers to other Dow market-facing businesses, and champion product and process improvements
- Generates innovation value growth by using broad market, customer, and application knowledge and in-depth understanding of competitive technologies to solve complex technical issues.
- Develops, prioritizes, and manages both an application research and development project portfolio and CRM technical service opportunities to meet innovation and sales targets.
- Participates in Market Management Team and Market Implementation Teams proactively to collaborate with marketing and commercial to advance business priorities.
- Apply project and scientific methodologies by preparing experimental plans and using relevant internal test methods to develop results which provide insights into application performance.
- Partners with market managers and sales directors to meet sales objectives and EBIT targets through successful technology implementation and technical service and development.
- Develop new approaches and solutions to problems by considering issues from different points of view.
- Identify innovation opportunities and contribute to extending Dow’s project portfolio and technology roadmap with customers to enable sustained value generation.
- Ensures technical work is being appropriately documented in Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN), Central Report Index (CRI) reports and Intellectual Capital Disclosure (ICD)/Patents.
Qualifications
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field such as Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or science-related field.
- A minimum of 4 years of experience in research, application development, product development, or technical service and development roles.
- Meet all applicable requirements related to business travel supporting customers throughout North America. Approximately 20% travel is expected.
