The Sr. Engineering Manager (SEM) is responsible for managing a team of engineers that is building, buying, and implementing innovative and cutting-edge technology solutions. This role is accountable for leading an engineering team developing, configuring and deploying code and SaaS as well as managing systems in production. The SEM leads teams to fulfill the product roadmap by delivering scalable, secure, innovative, and intelligent systems. They will be called upon to be the technical representative for their team during cross-team collaborative efforts and planning. Success in this role will require strong and innovative approaches to problem solving, great technical leadership, excellent communication (written and verbal, formal and informal), flexibility, accountability, and a self-motivated working style with attention to detail.

The SEM must demonstrate strong domain-specific knowledge regarding Target’s technology capabilities, vendor offerings (hardware and software) and key competitors’ products and differentiating features. They will work across product teams to implement solutions and influence engineering approach, understand and describe the technical ecosystem in their area of responsibility and how it impacts business capabilities. They will drive outcomes, remove obstacles, ensure commitment to timelines, and manage to an established budget, ensuring teams meet/exceed operations goals around stability and security for their products and compliance.

The SEM will coach, develop, assess, manage, and provide timely feedback to ensure high-performing teams and a healthy talent pipeline. They will foster a culture of recognition across the team by celebrating wins and learning from setbacks, establish and execute against a team vision (structure and roles), create authentic connections with the team, and contribute to the mission to reflect the guests that we serve. Additionally, they will apply and maintain knowledge of current and emerging technologies within specialized area(s) of the technology domain, evaluate new technologies and participate in decision-making, champion research and proof-of-concept activities for new technologies, and lead functional design and architecture discussions.

The SEM will be leading engineers on the Enterprise Experiences team that provides solutions for the following capabilities: email, calendaring, business productivity, chat, video conferencing, telephony, online whiteboarding, project management, and personal digital assistance (GenAI). Ability to work well with a global team is required as you will partner with Enterprise Experience peer engineering managers located in the US and India to deliver a unified systems experience for our customers, Target team members.
