In 1995 we started our first middle school, KIPP Academy, in the Bronx, with a vision that every child grows up free to create the future they want for themselves and their communities. Job Description

The KIPP NYC Senior Director, Finance Team is an essential role on the Finance Team responsible for leading the analysis and communication of financial data across all KIPP NYC entities. The Senior Director will work directly with schools and the Shared Services Team to support budgeting, financial analysis, annual and long-term forecasting, reporting and long-term strategic planning.

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Senior Director will serve as a strategic partner by providing financial data and analysis to the KIPP NYC leadership term, to facilitate financially informed decision making. Additionally, the Senior Director, with support of the FPA team, will prepare and present KIPP NYC financial reports to the Boards of Directors.

The Senior Director, Finance should have a strong understanding of fiscal management, excellent analytical and strategic planning skills as well as a detailed-oriented, results driven attitude with a strong executive presence. They should have demonstrated experience successfully managing diverse teams with excellent communication skills and significant ability to motivate and influence others 

This position is based out of the KIPP NYC office in New York, NY and requires travel to KIPP NYC schools located in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Harlem, and Washington Heights. 

General Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Team Management

  • Lead and develop the FP&A team of two financial analysts and a grant accountant, to effectively execute on team priorities and to foster a strong professional learning culture
  • Optimize the FP&A process, reporting and system functionality, identifying and integrating improvements
  • Lead the team in creating regular and ad hoc financial reports and presentations for internal and external audiences (i.e. Authorizers, Senior Leadership, Board Members, Budget Managers, etc)
  • Partner with other members of the KIPP NYC leadership to provide actionable data and engage in strategic financial decision making
  • Successfully represent KIPP NYC’s financial needs, interests and results with internal and external stakeholders and develop trust and leverage influence with external organizations and allies
  • Ensure the finance team is viewed as a positive support to the KIPP NYC mission

Financial Planning & Analysis

  • Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations while managing financial filings
  • Oversee preparation and submission of authorizer and government compliance reports
  • Prepare materials and analyses for the annual audit including supports for the Single Audit
  • Support the CFO and regional leaders to define and implement the annual budgeting process
  • Communicate complex financial information in an clear, concise, and accessible manner to a variety of stakeholders for regular reporting and on demand for organization priorities
  • Analyze and review monthly variance results and quarterly forecasts across multiple corporate entities and consolidations, in close partnership with other Finance department and accounting leadership
  • Partner with cross functional business leaders to establish budgets, build forecasts and communicate results

Qualifications

  • BA required, MBA or MA advanced degree in Finance 
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in financial analysis, forecasting and planning with at least 5 years of mentoring and leading finance team members
  • Advanced Excel skills and track record of success with financial systems and applications - modeling and forecasting with Vena (strongly preferred) or other Business Intelligence tools and Accounting systems
  • Demonstrated strong understanding with accounting principles and financial statements
  • Excellent communication skills especially with critical data, influencing and negotiation skills to interact effectively with all levels of the organization and the
