JOB TITLE:   

Assistant Director, Business Operations - College of Arts & Sciences    

JOB PURPOSE:   

Assists the Director of Business Operations in overseeing and performing the business, financial, and personnel functions of the College of Arts & Sciences. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Assist the Director in managing the financial operations of the college, including revenue reports, budget analysis, and cost approval. 
  • Coordinate with academic departments to review and assist with their budgets and reconciling.  
  • Training and mentoring of departmental staff. 
  • Perform analysis and troubleshooting for financial and budgeting problems. Manage the roll-up to the college budgets.
  • Manage the Dean’s office financials and disbursements. Generate and analyze reports. Forecast encumbrances and obligations.
  • Assist the Director in administering human resources activities. Duties include initiating, reviewing and assisting others in using ORC/HCM system for recruiting/hiring, pay, and employment changes.
  • Assist the Director in hiring, supervising, training, and mentoring Shared Staff Center Business Managers and other support staff.  Coordinate college financial data for consistency across all departments.
  • Oversee all college grant accounting. Includes training, supervising, and managing college grant accountant/s, and assisting PI’s, department staff, and Sponsored Programs with problem resolution.
  • Participates in the development, implementation, and maintenance of departmental policies, objectives, and procedures.

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY: 

This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting or related field
  • A minimum of 4 years of direct work-related experience
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) compliant with the University Vehicle Use Policy

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Master’s degree in business or business related field and/or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • A minimum of 1 year experience with fiscal management and budget planning
  • A minimum of 1 year experience with personnel management
  • A minimum of 1 year experience with payroll and hiring
  • Experience with grant accounting and budgeting
  • A minimum of 1 year experience working in higher education
