Summary The R&D Food Technician is responsible for assisting Food Technologists in the making of product samples and duties related to the development of new products. In addition to these responsibilities, a primary function of the job will be to manage the shipment of sales samples out of Fort Smith and Albertville facilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Gathers all sample request forms; generates shipping air bills, dry ice labels and necessary product labels.
- Works with Distribution to ensure all sample product is made available.
- Inspects samples prior to packing.
- Packs all samples according to directions on Sample Request Form.
- Tracks products and maintains files of delivered packages.
- Works with Federal Express or other shipping agency to work through delivery issues.
- Reconciles Federal Express or other shipping company invoices.
- Assisting Food Technologists in the lab, plant, and line trials as needed
- Maintain laboratory organization and maintain equipment cleanliness on daily basis.
- Valid driver's license required. Employee will be required to travel short distances routinely.

Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance. Must be able to pass a math skills test during the interview process.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have moderate typing skills and knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software, preferably Microsoft Word and Excel. Other basic computer skills include knowledge of Windows software are also needed.
