Department Information: The Department of Criminal Justice at California State University Bakersfield is consistently one of the largest programs within the College of Social Sciences and Education, with over 500 majors across the Bakersfield and Antelope Valley Campuses. The department has 8 full-time faculty and 9 part-time lecturers who specialize in a variety of criminal justice areas, offering students a comprehensive education in both theory and practice. This diverse curriculum includes courses in policing, corrections, courts, theory, research methods, ethics, correctional counseling, criminal investigation, criminal law, policy, and other critical areas within the field of criminal justice. In addition to teaching, the department strongly engages with community partners, creating internship opportunities, service-learning experiences, and career pathways for students. Student mentorship, professional development, and high-quality instruction are central to the program’s mission.
