About the role

Job Description

The NYC Business Integrity Commission (BIC) is responsible for regulating companies operating in the commercial waste (“trade waste”) industry and public wholesale markets to ensure those industries are operating fairly, safely, and free of crime. As a hybrid regulatory and law enforcement agency, BIC is staffed with analysts, attorneys, investigators, auditors, licensing specialists and various professionals tasked with fulfilling our mission. The Information Technology Unit is looking for a person who thrives on working with data to support staff across various units within BIC in meeting the agency’s evolving needs. The Data Analyst will work on projects that may include supporting criminal investigations, tracking compliance with regulatory rules and requirements, and conducting analysis that supports legislative proposals to positively impact public safety in New York City. BIC’s data analyst will have latitude, under supervision, to use their creativity and take initiative to develop internal data dashboards and reports. The data analyst will assist with preparing analysis and findings to inform internal policymaking and for use in meetings and presentations with other City agency partners. Under supervision of the Director of Information Technology, the responsibilities of the Data Analyst will include, but are not limited to:
-Perform analytical tasks using individual or case level data, including running queries, conducting analyses and developing reports using basic quantitative methods
-Respond to a variety of analytic and informational requests
-Provide written and graphic summaries of key issues and analytic findings
-Perform quality checks on data input by staff
-Participate in special projects as needed

Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
