Job Description:
Department: Global Engagement and Partnerships
Reports to: Ryan Fiske, Senior Director of Development
Internship: Paid, 10–12 Weeks (Flexible Start Date)
Location: Remote
Position Summary:
The Development Intern will gain hands-on experience in nonprofit fundraising and donor engagement, supporting key initiatives that strengthen donor relationships and expand the mission of Kids Alive International. The intern will spend at least 50% of their time conducting outbound phone calls to existing low- and mid-level donors, learning how to cultivate support through authentic and mission-aligned conversations. Additional responsibilities include supporting campus outreach efforts, attending a development conference or training, collaborating with a major gifts officers, and contributing to donor engagement campaigns.
This internship is designed to provide valuable exposure to the role of a development officer while making a meaningful contribution to the organization’s advancement goals.
Essential Duties:
- Donor Engagement (Primary Focus)
o Conduct outbound phone calls to current low- and mid-level donors to thank them, provide updates, and identify engagement opportunities
o Document donor interactions in the CRM system accurately and efficiently
o Support donor stewardship through personalized follow-ups and email correspondence
- Campus Engagement & Events
o Assist in developing and executing college campus outreach strategies
o Organize and support on-campus events and student-led initiatives aligned with Kids Alive’s mission
o Cultivate peer and student group champions to foster donor pipelines
- Exposure to Major Gifts Work
o Shadow a Major Gifts Officer during select calls, appointments, and a donor trip (if available)
o Assist in preparing donor profiles, solicitation plans, and event materials
o Participate in internal team meetings and debriefings related to major donor strategy
- Campaign Collaboration & Marketing
o Work closely with the MarCom team to design and implement outbound email campaigns that coordinate with call outreach
o Contribute to creative brainstorming around donor engagement, with a focus on Education Match and other giving campaigns
o Provide feedback and insights from donor interactions to improve messaging strategies
o Attend one national development or missions conference as a representative of Kids Alive
o Assist in building connections and recording follow-ups with prospective donors or partners
o Learn how to transition new contacts into ongoing donor relationships

Education & Experience Requirements:
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree, preferably in communications, nonprofit management, marketing, or a related field
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
