The Senior Revenue Accountant will report to the Controller and will play an integral part in finance operations. This role will have a broad scope and help us scale the accounting team by implementing new accounting standards and taking ownership of close deliverables from start to finish. We are a small but nimble team so you must have the ability to think at a high level about processes and procedures, but not be afraid to roll up your sleeves. Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day operational and accounting aspects of order-to-cash and revenue cycle from collections to revenue recognition issues.
- Review purchase orders, contracts, quotes, and invoices for completeness, accuracy, and potential revenue recognition issues.
- Assist with the timely execution and review of month-end and quarter-end close activities (including, but not limited to, deal review, account reconciliation, analysis, and reporting), including proper documentation of the checklist completed, analysis of flux for Account Receivables, Revenue Recognized, and Deferred Revenue for all customers and provide to FP&A team.
- Review revenue arrangements to ensure revenue is recognized following US GAAP and internal ASC 606 policy; participate in draft contract reviews to identify potential revenue recognition considerations. Follow proper accounting treatment and guidance with customers according to their customer status and appropriately account for any adjustments to ensure the proper balance on the customer accounts are reflected.
- Prepare and analyze monthly/quarterly financial reports and disclosures, including Deferred Revenue, Waterfall, Disaggregated Revenue, and Backlog.
- Assess new accounting pronouncements to determine their impact on the company and drive the implementation.
- Participate in developing internal controls and SOX implementation efforts and meet Sarbanes-Oxley requirements.
- Maintain Company compliance and support the annual registration process with states that are required, and experience in the reconciliation of Sales and Use Tax and the monthly billing report.
- Work closely with our auditors to drive conclusions on complex accounting issues. Build a solid and effective professional relationship with our external auditors to ensure effective coordination of quarter-end review and year-end audit activities.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in, Finance, Accounting, business administration, Economics or related field.
- 5+ years of working experience within a public accounting firm and/or industry experience (enterprise software experience is a plus).
- Prior experience with Avalara, including reporting, filling, etc preferred.
- Prior experience with NetSuite a must, experience with Salesforce (SFDC) and the Netsuite Revenue Module and integration in Salesforce, a plus.
- Partner with cross-functional groups to drive best practices and scalable revenue processes.
- Assist with other special projects as needed, taking on additional duties and ad-hoc activities is also required.
- Ability to effectively communicate and own processes from start to finish is a must.
- Prior work experience in a fast-paced, startup environment a plus.
- Entrepreneurial spirit and desire to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to multitask in a dynamic environment.
