Job Duties

*Note: This is a GENEDGE position. P&HCC/VCCS serve as fiscal agent, and New College Institute is the location of GENEDGE's headquarters.*

The Business Services Director – Smart & Advanced Manufacturing will enhance these areas’ ability to serve the market within GENEDGE's Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) Services Team. This individual supports the development, deployment, and continuous improvement of offerings related to automation, digital transformation, Industry 4.0/5.0, industrial networking, and technology acceleration in partnership with the Programs Team’s Engagement Manager- Advanced Manufacturing and Automation as the senior/lead subject matter expert. The Director serves as a hub for knowledge management, client engagement, third-party coordination, and internal capacity building for and within the MEP Team.


The position requires significant overnight travel, typically within Virginia. This position will ideally be based out of our headquarters in Martinsville, VA.

Duties and Responsibilities include: 

· Translate client needs into actionable roadmaps for technology adoption, workforce upskilling, and process transformation.

· Collaborate with Regional Growth Managers (RGMs) to scope, propose, and deliver high-impact client engagements.

· Actively participate in complex client projects, either as the lead consultant or overseeing third-party delivery resources.

· Maintain awareness of market trends and emerging technologies; propose shifts to GENEDGE’s strategic direction as appropriate.

· Provide direct consultations with RGMs and prospects to identify challenges and recommend solution pathways.

· Support or lead proposal development, pricing, and scoping of technical engagements as appropriate.

· Support project close-out activities including impact collection and reporting.

Practice Management and Offering Development

· Support Engagement Manager-Advanced Manufacturing and Automation in the design, piloting, and rollout of service offerings aligned with industry trends and client needs.

· Define delivery frameworks, standard work, and pricing models for offerings.

· Maintain tools, templates, and Salesforce artifacts (including Pricebook) related to practice offerings.

· Deliver internal briefings and training to GENEDGE staff on market developments and service line capabilities within MEP team and support of Engagement Manager.

· Represent GENEDGE at national/state smart manufacturing roundtables, conferences, and strategic forums as appropriate.

Third-Party Resource Development

· Identify, evaluate, and build GENEDGE’s network of qualified third-party service providers for the Smart & Advanced Manufacturing practice for the MEP team.

· Assist in technical vetting and onboarding of new resources.

· Provide thoughtful navigation in delivery guidance and performance feedback to ensure quality and consistency.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or business or related fields and/or equivalent combination of education, experience, and/or training.

· 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in manufacturing or technology environments, including:

Automation systems, process control, robotics, MES, SCADA, or digital transformation

 Project leadership and/or consulting

Manufacturing operations, quality, product development, or technology implementation

· Proven ability to translate technical requirements into business impact.

· Demonstrated experience with client relationship management and technical project scoping.

· Strong written and verbal communication skills.

· Experience leading cross-functional teams and/or third-party contractors.

Additional Considerations

Preferred Qualifications

· Master’s degree in engineering, science, or business.

· Certification in Lean Six Sigma, Smart Manufacturing, Automation, or Industry 4.0 frameworks.

· Experience in internal or external consult
