Job Description
As the Assistant Vice President of Claims Risk & Compliance, you will be in a strategic leadership role responsible for ensuring our Claims division operates in a secure, responsible, and compliant manner, particularly with respect to PHI, PII, our proprietary data sets, and applications. You will be the privacy and security SME for the Claims division where you will actively promote a culture of privacy protection and data security while continually seeking opportunities to improve our compliance program and support commercial and product development activities.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
Compliance Oversight
Lead and oversee the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of compliance, data security, and data use programs, ensuring alignment with relevant regulations, industry best practices, and company policies. Key stakeholder in evaluating customer and vendor contracts for data use, risk and compliance purposes.
Risk Assessment and Mitigation
Conduct continuous, comprehensive compliance risk assessments, identify, and quantify potential deficiencies, and recommend remediation of those deficiencies.
Policy Development
Collaborate with cross-functional team (e.g., Product, Legal, Risk Management, etc.) to create and update data security policies, procedures, and guidelines, ensuring they align with regulatory expectations and internal requirements.
Product Development
Serve as a key stakeholder and thought leader in the product development cycle to understand data use rights and authorized/permitted use of the data and positively support business activities.
Training and awareness
Ensure compliance-related training is offered to colleagues and completed timely based on specific user profiles.
Audit and Assessments
Lead and support internal and external compliance audits of data usage, including that data access is based on least privileged access. In addition, lead the completion of client assessments and the execution of audits by external entities (i.e., SOC 2, SOX).
Incident Response
Lead incident response efforts on behalf of the Claims division, its business units, and associated products for any suspected data privacy, access, or usage issue.
Continuous Improvement
Proactively identify opportunities to enhance the Claims division risk posture while balancing.
Regulatory response
Assess and lead any response to regulators related to the products we provide.

Qualifications
About You and How You Can Excel in This Role
- Bachelor’s degree and
- minimum of ~10 experience working in a corporate or government compliance program,
- law degree (e.g., JD, LLB, or LLM) from an ABA-accredited law school, or
- relevant combination of experience and education.
- Solid understanding of the US data regulatory environment, privacy law, and anti-discrimination practices (e.g., HIPAA, CCPA, Col. SB 169, etc.).
- Understanding of data use rights/permissions.
- Experience with customer contracting processes as it relates to data use, privacy, and security.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to understand and balance risk and compliance obligations with business goals.
- Strong problem-solving skills; ability to think critically and strategically to identify and solve complex business challenges.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing priorities.
- Report to our Jersey City, New Jersey (hybrid work model).
