Job Summary
Community Work-Study Program
The Community Work-Study Program (CWS) provides federal financial aid eligible students the opportunity to work part-time at non-profit organizations that serve the public interest.
Goals of this program include:
Develop interest in public service through employment with TAMIU and be assigned to local non-profit, government, or community-based organizations.
Apply skills and theories gained through coursework to solve problems and explore issues outside the classroom.
Enhance career competencies, such as critical thinking, teamwork, communication, and leadership.
Articulate how experiences will shape personal, academic, and professional pursuits.
Laredo Animal Protective Society (LAPS) is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Program Intern to assist in various aspects of animal welfare, including shelter operations, community outreach, and education. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in animal care, advocacy, and nonprofit management while making a tangible difference in the lives of homeless animals in Laredo and Webb County.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Shelter Operations Support: Assist with daily shelter activities, including animal intake, care, and maintenance of facilities. Ensure that the shelter environment is clean, safe, and welcoming for all animals.
Adoption Coordination: Help organize and manage adoption events, assist potential adopters with inquiries, and ensure a smooth transition for animals into their new homes.
Community Outreach: Participate in outreach activities to promote LAPS' services, including affordable spay/neuter programs and educational campaigns aimed at reducing animal overpopulation and cruelty.
Volunteer Coordination: Work with the Volunteer Coordinator to recruit, train, and supervise volunteers. Assist in organizing volunteer schedules and activities.
Educational Initiatives: Support the development and implementation of educational programs aimed at promoting responsible pet ownership and preventing animal cruelty.
Fundraising and Event Planning: Assist in planning and executing fundraising events to support LAPS' mission. Work on developing partnerships with local businesses and community organizations.
Minimum Requirements
Enrolled at least half-time, 6 credit hours per semester for undergraduate and 3 credit hours per semester for graduates.
Maintain a TAMIU overall GPA of 2.0 for undergraduate students and 3.0 for graduates' students.
Must have a current and complete file with the Office of Financial Aid.
Must demonstrate financial need by submitting a FAFSA application annually.
Must be a U.S. citizen, or permanent residence, or has an alien registration number.an eligible non-citizen.
