Job Summary:

THIS IS NOT A FLEET/DRIVER MANAGEMENT ROLE:

Oversees the execution of logistics related activities for the transportation function. Provides high quality, cost effective, and efficient service to meet current and future demands. Optimizes facilities utilization, process execution and compliance with internal policies and procedures and external regulations. Provides oversight and direction regarding assigned team, financial and operational activities.


Principal Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for a team managing inbound and outbound shipments, achieving an optimal balance between cost and customer service.
  • Oversees the freight payment process and continually works to reduce transportation costs.
  • Negotiates competitive rates, service level agreements and shipping terms.
  • Implements and analyzes systems and process efficiencies.
  • Monitors carrier compliance and optimizes carrier performance to contract terms.
  • Identifies, investigates, and participates in opportunities to improve processes and procedures, to include various key performance metrics.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Manages direct managers and/or highly skilled specialists who exercise significant latitude and independence. Often oversees one or more departments or related teams.
  • Establishes operating policies and procedures that affect departments and direct teams. Interprets enterprise-wide policies and procedures. Develops budgets, schedules and performance standards for one or more departments. Responsible for resources and policy formation in area of responsibility.
  • Assignments are defined in the form of long-term objectives. Decisions are guided by resource availability, functional objectives and independent judgment.
  • Collaborates frequently with internal and/or external management. Leads meetings and briefings for internal and/or external representatives. Often coordinates efforts between functional areas and/or members of an extended assignment/project team.
  • Decisions likely have extended impact on the outcomes of multiple departments or teams. Erroneous decisions or recommendations will likely result in critical delays and/or modifications to projects and/or operations; causing substantial expenditure of additional time, people and/or financial resources, and jeopardize future business activity.


Work Experience:

  • Typically 8+ years including 3+ years of management experience


Education and Certification(s):

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience from which comparable knowledge and job skills can be obtained.


Distinguishing Characteristics:

  • Position requires the ability to travel.
  • Professional qualification in the field of Customs Laws and Regulations with demonstrated practice and regular continuous training.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of customs law, customs tariff law, and preferential law.

  • Proven experience with parcel and freight carriers at both national and international levels.

  • Expertise in air-sea-land freight operations.

  • Proven experience with Duty Drawback operations.

  • Experience with establishment of FTZ/bonded warehouses preferred but not required.

  • IT affinity, working in in different systems.
