Boeing Research and Technology (BR&T) is seeking an Assembly/Automation Materials and Processes Engineer to join the BR&T Manufacturing Technology Integration (MTI) team in Frederickson, WA.
Our team is currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including a mid-level or senior level engineer.
This role will provide technology integration support for the manufacturing and assembly of various composites structures at the Boeing Commercial Aircraft (BCA) Fabrication Manufacturing Business Unit (MBU) in Frederickson, WA. You must be able to work in a cross-functional work environment including engineering, quality, production, and program management.
Position Responsibilities:
- Coordinates across multiple organizations/sites to engage appropriately skilled employees to work on projects.
- Prepares annual department budget and manages it throughout year (headcount and expenditures).
- Prepares monthly budgetary status reports.
- Works with site Senior Leadership to align projects with factory needs. Participates in strategy meetings to create/update technology roadmap.
- Flexibility to learn and work across a variety of aerospace manufacturing technologies and applications
- Support day-to-day factory operations with design and fabrication of unique, one-off tooling and hardware solutions
- Support coordination efforts to replicate solutions and further enable safe and high-quality builds
- Fabricate technical solutions using additive manufacturing and basic machine shop equipment, while using Design for Manufacture principles to coordinate more complex fabrication efforts
- Work closely with factory mechanics and various engineering functions such as manufacturing engineering, quality engineering, and industrial engineering to improve general assembly methods and processes
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.
This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.15 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
- Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
- 4+ years of experience working in a composite development, manufacturing, and assembly environments
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
- 7+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience in aerospace manufacturing, fabrication, and assembly of composites and metallic structures
- 7+ years of experience working thermoset composites manufacturing of aircraft structures
- Experience with manufacturing of composites wing and empennage structures
- Familiarity with aerospace materials and process engineering
- Experience with assembly of composites/metal structures, predictive shimming, robotic drilling
- Strong project planning, management, and execution skills.
- Experience in completing requirements-driven materials and process analysis and compiling detailed engineering reports.
- Must be able to gain trust of shop employees, technical staff, and leadership, working with them seamlessly to ensure successful project implementation.
- Knowledge and/or experience in manufacturing, fabrication, assembly lines, production control, or quality assurance.
- Knowledge and/or experience in aerospace fasteners (rivets, bolts, etc.), composite and metallic drilling & fastening processes (hand, robot, and large assembly cells), determinate and one-up assembly, coolants, lubricants, etc.
- Strong project planning, management, and execution skills.
- Experience in completing requirements-driven materials and process analysis and compiling detailed engineering reports.
- Experience with shimming during assembly processes, such as predictive shimming
