Job Description

AECOM is hiring a Project Director for its Sustainable Economics and Climate Advisory team to be based in Chicago, IL; Los Angeles, CA; Oakland, CA; or San Francisco, CA. The Sustainable Economics team is part of AECOM’s Economics + Advisory Practice. We help public and private sector clients understand the economic risks posed by climate change, identify and prioritize investments in climate action and adaptation, and develop policies and programs to achieve their climate and social equity goals. Our projects range from economic and fiscal analysis to prioritization and phasing of projects, policy and program design, development of governance mechanisms, and funding and financing strategies. We work with a wide range of clients including cities, counties, transportation agencies, and utilities.

Job Summary/Responsibilities

The team is looking for a market and project leader who can support pursuits, identify opportunities, lead projects, and develop a team of analysts. With a national practice, we are seeking candidates who can learn the nuances of new cities and regions and provide subject matter expertise in specific focus areas related to climate policy, public policy, infrastructure finance, and/or economic development. The successful candidate can lead quantitative and qualitative analysis, evaluate policies and programs, and develop strategic solutions in support of sustainability and resilience programs. Additional day-to-day tasks will include business development activities and leadership of project teams to ensure top quality and timely work products which satisfy clients’ needs. The position requires the ability to lead a team while working closely with other disciplines and balancing multiple projects and deadlines, delegating and mentoring staff, communicating clearly with both clients and other team members, and actively pursuing business development and thought leadership opportunities.

Qualified candidates will have an education and/or professional experience in public policy; sustainability planning; or urban planning and economics. Qualified candidates will also have experience working with the public sector, with exposure to climate action planning, policy development, and program implementation.

The successful candidate will have experience in several of the following areas/project types:

  • Equitable policy and strategy development related to infrastructure delivery
  • Funding and financing strategy for public sector investments
  • Implementation of new public policies and programs
  • Benefit-cost analysis for climate change vulnerability and action and adaptation plans
  • Triple bottom line / sustainable return on investment assessments

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements :

  • BA/BS + 8 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • 12+ years of professional experience in public policy, urban planning, environmental or urban economics, or related fields
  • Master’s degree from an accredited university in Urban Planning, Public Policy, Economics, or a related field
  • 3+ years in management role at a planning, economic, financial or strategy consulting firm, in the public sector, or equivalent
  • Experience designing and implementing public policies and programs related to climate change mitigation, adaptation, and/or resilience
  • Experience working closely and collaboratively with many disciplines, including all aspects of from urban planning, urban design, and architecture to urban infrastructure practice areas including transportation, water, environment, and energy
  • Experience leading quantitative and qualitative analysis related to sustainability, resilience, equity, public health, public finance, and/or economic and community developme
