Job Description
The purpose of this role is the manage the medium to long term Olympus quality strategy for externally sourced specific categories to provide optimized quality assurance and regulatory compliance of externally sourced materials and service.
The Supplier Quality Manager (SQM) is responsible for supplier quality for one or more global categories, works together with the global and regional Category Manager. The SQM is in charge of the entire supplier management activities, including Supplier Approval, Supplier Auditing, Supplier Quality Assurance Agreements, Supplier development support and Supplier evaluation support. The role will support supplier selection activities and developing the category strategy together with the category manager. They will provide leadership, strategy, vision, oversight, training and mentoring to the supplier of the category they are responsible for and support the local/regional organizations in case of escalations.
Job Duties
- Ensures the qualification and approval of suppliers.
- Performs regular supplier audits and initiates and monitors required measures.
- Decides on the debarring / deactivation of suppliers.
- Prepares and executes global/regional and local quality assurance agreements on behalf of Olympus and makes sure Olympus commitments are held in all sites.
- Works in a joint team with global/regional procurement and supply chain management for supplier selection, supplier evaluation, supplier development, supplier risk management.
- Participates in category (strategy) boards of the category.
- Leads supplier improvement projects.
- Analyzes supplier quality KPIs, makes necessary decisions and initiates actions as required.
- Acts as first escalation level for local Supplier Quality Engineers regarding product related quality issues.
- Develops and executes vision and strategy for the supplier quality assurance activities together with the Category Manager for suppliers of the category and promotes the strategy within the organization.
- Supports facility audits by outside agencies (i.e., FDA, ISO / MDSAP.
Job Qualifications
Required:
- Minimum requirements are a BA/BS degree or equivalent in a Life Science, Engineering, or Physical Science with an advanced technical degree and MBA preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in supplier quality management.
- Demonstrated comprehensive expertise in the applied interpretation of worldwide regulatory standards and laws applicable to the medical device e.g., ISO, QSR, GMP, jPAL, cCMP.
- Knowledge of and experience in supplier management of suppliers with global/regional footprint.
- High level of quality tools and methodology skills (e.g., 8D, 5-Whys, FMEA, IQ/OQ/PQ).
- Excellent written and oral communication and organizational, project management skills.
- Certified Supplier Quality Auditor.
- Contract negotiation skills.
- Since this is a Global/regional role, the individual will be expected to schedule meetings that work for multiple time zones (global) and well as 30%-40% travel should be expected.
