 SCADA/ADMS Database Senior

The SCADA/ADMS (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition/Advanced Distribution Management System) team within the Asset Management Innovation and Technology department at Colorado Springs Utilities is hiring a System and Database Senior.  In this job, you will provide system support for our electric utility operations. The primary work that you do is critical to maintaining the data integrity, reliability, compliance, and security of our ADMS and Outage Management System (OMS). Your curiosity, ability to solve complex problems and desire to use and build your technical skills will enable Operations to continuously improve processes, find cost savings, and solve operational challenges through the use and implementation of technology.

The systems you will support in this position are integrated with industrial instrumentation and other integrated software solutions which make up a complex set of hardware and software architectures. This includes, but is not limited to industrial level Systems Integration, Industrial/Operations System Implementations, Customer Billing Systems, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).  You will support ADMS advanced applications including but not limited to OMS, Distribution Power Flow (DPF), Fault Location Isolation and Service Restoration (FLISR), and Volt/VAR Control and Optimization (VVC/VVO).

Key Focus Areas:

  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, and field teams to support electric distribution programs, projects and initiatives using ADMS applications
  • Provide ADMS technical support to key stakeholders to minimize application downtime and increase reliability
  • Support the development, testing, and implementation of data integrations between ADMS and SCADA and other enterprise systems under the guidance of more senior team members
  • Support the development, testing, and implementation of custom solutions within the ADMS application framework to improve situational awareness, performance, and reliability under the guidance of more senior team members
  • Maintain, update, troubleshoot configuration and GIS data used within the ADMS environment
    • Electronic mapping and visualization of the electric distribution network
    • Electric distribution connectivity model
  • Train electric distribution control operators, engineering, and field support personnel in the use of ADMS applications to ensure effective use of ADMS technologies
  • Perform ADMS application patching and performance monitoring under the guidance of more senior team members
  • Support Colorado Springs Utilities Incident Command Center during large outage events

PLEASE NOTE: This is a fully onsite position requiring working on a monthly, week-long on-call rotation to ensure 24x7 operational support, and the ability to work extended periods to provide operational readiness of the EMS/SCADA system.

Highly desired knowledge/skills/expertise include:

  • Experienced in application and integration development using scripting languages (Python, Bash, PowerShell), programming languages (C/C++, Java, C#) and SQL/NoSQL database programmingExperienced with SDLC (Software Development Lifecycle), code implementation, and promotion
  • Ability to develop collaboratively or independently as needed
  • Experience integrating with API’s  
  • Basic knowledge of GIS and using ESRI ArcGIS Desktop solutions (ArcMap and Pro)
  • Experience developing and managing ETL processes to ensure seamless data integration
  • Write and optimize complex SQL queries for data extraction and reporting 
  • Basic skills in Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Windows Server, and Oracle Database
  • Knowledge of NERC CIP compliance
  • Experience with monitoring and alerting implementation
  • Understanding of disaster recovery strategies and topologies
  • A bachelor's degree in computer science or computer information systems
