What you’ll own as the Senior AWS Cloud Engineer – Payment Infrastructure

We are seeking an experienced AWS Cloud Engineer to join our infrastructure team and help drive the performance, scalability, and cost efficiency of our cloud-based payments platform. This role is critical to ensuring the reliability and sustainability of our infrastructure as we continue to grow. The ideal candidate has a strong background in AWS operations, cost management, and platform observability.

  • Own the performance and availability of our AWS-hosted payments infrastructure; define and monitor SLIs/SLOs for uptime, latency, and error rates.

  • Use AWS Cost Explorer, CloudZero, and Cloudability to track, forecast, and optimize cloud spend; implement tagging, budgeting, and accountability frameworks across teams.

  • Instrument and monitor key platform metrics including response time, resource utilization, and throughput using Datadog and AWS CloudWatch.

  • Tune cloud services for efficiency; drive improvements in auto-scaling, instance sizing, and network performance.

  • Design and maintain scalable infrastructure using IAC such as Terraform, Pulumi, or CloudFormation to support consistent deployments and resource governance.

  • Contribute to the design of scalable, reliable, and secure cloud solutions using AWS native services.

  • Build and deploy AWS solutions leveraging services such as RDS/Aurora, Athena, Glue, and containerized workloads (ECS, EKS, or Fargate).

  • Partner with engineering, product, finance, and security teams to ensure cloud environments are performant, secure, and cost-effective.

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and peers.

  • Stay up-to-date with AWS advancements and continuously seek opportunities to improve our cloud architecture and processes.

What you’ll bring

  • 5+ years managing production AWS environments, with deep understanding of core services (EC2, RDS, S3, ECS, Lambda, etc.).

  • Hands-on experience with AWS Cost Explorer, Cloudability, or CloudZero for cloud spend analysis and forecasting.

  • Proficiency in Datadog for monitoring, tracing, and log analysis; familiarity with CloudWatch and distributed tracing techniques.

  • Strong background in tuning application and infrastructure performance in large-scale, real-time environments.

  • Experience with FinOps practices to drive cloud cost visibility, accountability, and continuous improvement.

  • Skilled in infrastructure automation and CI/CD processes using modern tools and frameworks.

  • Hands-on experience deploying and managing containerized applications (Docker, ECS, EKS, Fargate).

  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages (PHP, Python, Java, Node.js, Go, etc.).

  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.

It’s a bonus if you have

  • AWS Certifications (Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer, or Advanced Networking).

  • Experience with PCI compliance and secure architecture patterns.

  • Background supporting payments or high-throughput financial systems.

  • Experience in SRE or platform engineering roles with metrics-driven reliability goals.

  • Familiarity with data engineering/analytics and big data architectures on AWS.

  • Knowledge of security best practices in cloud environments.

  • Experience mentoring or leading engineering teams.

  • Experience with cloud migration: Knowledge of migrating applications and data to the cloud.

  • Experience with database administration: Knowledge of database systems and their deployment in the cloud.

  • Ability to troubleshoot issues and optimize cloud solutions.
