Position Details:

The Child Mind Institute is looking for accomplished and motivated individuals to join our team for our Summer Program for children with Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Oppositional-Defiant Disorder, and related learning, social, and behavioral challenges.


The program is offered as a four-week immersive summer therapy camp session each year. Teacher interns complete over 40 hours of training in evidence. 


Reporting to the Director, Summer Program, this is an unpaid, temporary, full-time, internship located on-site at Allen Stevenson School (132 East 78th Street, New York, NY 10075) and our NYC headquarters office.


This is a highly competitive unpaid internship. Therefore, we strongly encourage applicants to independently investigate stipend programs through their college placement offices and to pursue college study credits for this experience. We can provide any requested documentation to assist students in getting stipends and college credit.

Learning Opportunities:

Teacher Interns for Summer Program complete over 40 hours of training in evidence-based behavioral management strategies, including using positive reinforcement, compliance training, and limit-setting techniques. Teacher interns learn to build and tailor academic curriculums to meet the needs of students with ADHD while applying intensive behavioral treatment approaches to manage student behavior and help their students thrive academically, behaviorally and socially. 

 

You Will:

  • Support lead teacher prepare lesson plans and academic activities in reading, writing, and math.
  • Provide additional support to students with learning needs during academic activities, including reading, writing, and math.  
  • Debrief with parents/caregivers about student performance at the end of every day. 
  • Participate in daily debrief meetings with fellow interns and clinical staff. 
  • Provide additional support to students on field trip days. 
  • Participate in parent teacher conferences for children at the end of the program, along with a clinical staff member and lead teacher. 

You Have:

  • Current undergraduate or graduate-level study in early childhood education or special education. 
  • 1+ years of experience as a student-teacher, teacher assistant, or tutor working with elementary-age students; special education experience a plus. 
  • 1+ years of experience working in children’s summer camps, after-school, daycare or educational programs a plus. 
  • Teacher interns are required to attend each day of the program and all trainings, in-person. Please refer to all dates below.
