Baylor Scott & White Medical Center - Sunnyvale is seeking a pharmacy technician to assists pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications, maintaining the drug inventory and supplies, receiving, sorting, and stocking medications and supplies.  Bills and credits medications to patients.

 

What your day will look like:

  • Prepares IV mixtures according to established procedures. 
  • Picks up orders and medications for return from patient care areas. 
  • Checks areas of responsibility for outdated Medications and adequate levels of stock. 
  • Maintains a good working relationship with other departments. 
  • Fills patient medication drawers and unit dose Medication orders.
  • Fills automated dispensing machines and other unit supplies.
  • Makes deliveries to patient care areas.
  • Enters charges and credits.
  • Unpacks and stocks orders
  • Prepackages bulk medication to unit dose or IV bulk products to syringes.
  • Communicates effectively with coworkers to ensure understanding of customer needs and activities.
  • Frequently offers assistance to others in need. 
  • Actively participates in team meetings and often offers suggestions on how to improve the services provided.

 

Success Factors:

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required; College preferred. 
  • Experience: 1 year of experience as hospital tech required; 2 years preferred.
  • CPhT and Texas Registered required; IV Certified preferred
  • Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
  • Additional languages preferred.  
  • Basic computer knowledge required.

This individual’s responsibilities include (but are not limited to): Accurately fill and label medication orders with correct strength, dosage form, and quantity in a timely manner. Accurately stock automated dispensing cabinets (ADCs) in a timely manner. Fill/refill emergency crash carts, boxes, and kits timely and accurately. Re-package and label oral medications/extemporaneous preparations and maintain appropriate records. Respond appropriately to requests for STAT orders, routine orders, department requests, and ADC stock out bulletins. Assure all medications are checked by a pharmacist prior to dispensing. Stock medications into pharmacy inventory, including sterile compounding areas. Maintain adequate medication stock levels and proper storage of medications. Deliver medications to patient care areas. Attend to medication requests and phone calls. Prepare simple IV admixtures (excluding chemotherapy, biotherapy) accurately, consistent with IV policies and procedures (USPless than797> and USPless than800>). Comply with state and federal regulatory requirements, Joint Commission standards and Tenet and hospital policies and procedures. Assist in performing various duties as assigned.

Education:

Required: High school graduate or equivalent

Experience:

Required: Must be 18 years of age
Preferred: Hospital experience

Certifications:

Required: Registered Pharmacy Technician license/certification, as required by state law.
Preferred: Accredited training in sterile products preparation and IV Admixture Certification

Physical Demands:

Lift/position up to 50 lbs. Push/pull up to 50 lbs. of force. Frequent standing and walking. Frequent reaching, stooping, and bending. Manual dexterity, mobility, touch, auditory to perform all the related duties of the position
