Accountabilities  

Hitachi Rail STS USA, Inc., headquartered in Pittsburgh, PA, seeks a Senior Installation Engineer to work in unanticipated locations throughout the U.S. The Senior Installation Engineer will be responsible for the planning, design, installation, and maintenance of various railway systems and infrastructure. This role plays a crucial part in ensuring the safe and efficient designs of railway networks.

Specific duties include:

(1) designing railway systems and infrastructure, which may include tracks, equipment, cable pathways, signaling systems, electrical lines, and other essential components, in accordance with safety and operational requirements;

(2) installation of railway design and systems which includes coordinating with various teams (construction workers, electrical designers, signaling designers, communication team, structural design team and other technicians) to ensure that the work is completed in accordance with the design specifications;

(3) ensuring that all installations meet safety standards and regulations, minimizing the risk of accidents and ensuring the quality of designs, and making sure their designs are in accordance with national codes and project requirements;

(4) quality assurance of the designs which includes inspecting installation sites, conducting site surveys, and addressing any issues in the designs that may arise during or after the installation process;

(5) managing and leading installation designs which involves coordination with various stakeholders, project managers, clients, sub-contractors, and government agencies, and to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget limits;

(6) maintaining accurate records and documentation of installation designs, site survey updates, and changes which are critical for regulatory compliance and future reference, as well as maintaining detailed design records of all work performed on site after construction;

(7) communication and collaboration with design teams, clients and stakeholders and must be able to convey technical information clearly and work collaboratively to achieve project goals in accordance with Hitachi global standards; and

(8) keeping up with industry advancements and technology to be able to evaluate and implement new technologies and methods to improve design efficiency and modifications in railway systems.

This position is for a roving employee who will work in unanticipated locations throughout the United States. The employee will have to relocate, but travel is not required from any particular location.

Required Skills/ Knowledge 

Must have four years of engineering experience within the electrical or transportation industry.

Must have experience :

(1) preparing conceptual and wiring designs for complex electrical substation projects;

(2) implementing, reviewing and analyzing technical studies and project scope of work;

(3) with computer aided design (AutoCAD) and MicroStation software;

(4) developing and understanding technical specifications, drawings and standards of equipment/project requirements;

(5) working closely with engineers to ensure accurate delivery and thorough designs that meet industry standards and specifications and good engineering practices for installation or testing and commissioning;

(6) developing cable table and cable / wiring schedules for the designs;

(7) maintaining complete project documentation with respect to engineering studies and calculations, design packages, as-built requirements and return data information;

(8) developing and maintaining good working relationships with internal groups that support project such as other engineering disciplines, Drafting, Procurement, Construction and Project Management;

(9) preparing bill of material (BOM) documentation;

(10) selecting equipment type and preparing documents for materials list for construction and installation work;
