About the role

Planning Analyst – MPC Resource Planning/MPC Financial Analysis

JOB SUMMARY

This analyst position will support both MPC Resource Planning (60%) and MPC Financial Analysis (40%).

MPC Resource Planning Analyst major responsibilities include:

  • Project management for the varied efforts and deliverables within MPC Resource Planning and communication of status to management
  • Development of PowerPoint presentations, performing secondary research, spreadsheet analysis, management of assigned project activities and coordination with other departments regarding project activities
  • Cost tracking and reporting of department project budgets and variance explanations
  • Analysis regarding IIC related Pool transactions and other fuel strategy topics
  • Support the development, filing, presentation, and regulatory process for MPC Resource Planning sponsored regulatory filings 
  • Participate on company and system teams

 

MPC Financial Analysis Analyst major responsibilities include: 

  • Develop, maintain, and manage complex financial models used for project analysis and regulatory filings
  • Analyze and present financial and accounting information to management and regulatory bodies
  • Prepare responses to data requests 
  • Participate on company and system teams

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business is required
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects with changing priorities and produce timely results
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products – particularly using and designing complex Excel models
  • MBA or other advanced degree(s) a plus

Experience:

  • 10+ years of relevant utility experience is required
  • Experience collaborating with multiple groups/departments/teams to accomplish project goals and timelines is required
  • Experience with analyzing data and/or numerical analysis is required
  • Desired experience in the areas of: 
    • Generation planning and analysis
    • Economic evaluations
    • Fuel policy and procurement
    • Project management

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:  

  • Working knowledge of the electric industry and familiarity with generation planning and financial analysis 
  • Ability to quickly review and comprehend technical and financial information and data and to identify key issues 
  • Excellent writing and speaking skills, strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a desire to understand complex problems
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently with multidisciplinary teams under tight deadlines 
  • Be proactive, set high standards for self and commit to organizational goals 
  • Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), accounting theory and financial metrics preferred
  • Working knowledge of utility accounting and regulatory framework preferred

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • This position will be located at MPC Headquarters in Gulfport, MS
  • Hybrid work schedule (both in-office and telecommute); currently four (4) days in-office and one (1) day telecommute (subject to adjustment)
  • No relocation assistance will be provided
  • This position will require minimal travel (day or overnight, approx. 10%) and the ability to work successfully in a remote/virtual environment with access to internet service
  • Successful candidate would be required to perform assigned storm duty in the event of a disaster
