As a Data Lineage Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing data transparency, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency across the organization. This position is essential in ensuring that data flows are well-documented, traceable, and aligned with enterprise data governance standards.

Key focus areas include:

Compliance: Ensure adherence to internal data governance policies and external regulatory requirements by documenting end-to-end data flows. This is especially critical in highly regulated sectors like financial services and healthcare.

Data Governance: Strengthen trust in enterprise data by providing visibility into data origins, transformations, and usage. This transparency supports proactive data quality management and informed decision-making.

Migration Support: Facilitate smooth transitions during system upgrades or cloud migrations by mapping data flows from legacy systems to modern platforms and databases.

Analytics Enablement: Enhance the reliability of business intelligence and analytics by tracing data back to its source, ensuring that insights are based on accurate and well-understood data.

Incident Response: Accelerate issue resolution by quickly identifying root causes through upstream data flow tracing, enabling faster remediation and system recovery.

Key Responsibilities:

Data Source Identification: Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to identify and catalog data sources across the enterprise.

Source-to-Target Mapping: Develop and maintain comprehensive source-to-target documentation, ensuring traceability of data elements from origin to consumption.

Process and Data Analysis: Analyze data flows, business processes, and system interactions to understand data transformations and dependencies.

Data Visualization: Utilize data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Collibra, Alteryx) to present lineage and data flow insights to technical and non-technical audiences.

Regulatory Reporting Support: Partner with regulatory reporting teams to ensure data lineage supports compliance with U.S. regulatory requirements (e.g., FR Y-9C, FFIEC 031/041, CCAR).

Metadata Management: Contribute to enterprise metadata initiatives by documenting business and technical metadata related to data lineage.

Quality Assurance: Validate lineage documentation through data profiling, reconciliation, and stakeholder reviews.

The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. They are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required of personnel so classified.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Finance, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in data analysis, data governance, or data architecture within a financial services environment.
  • Strong understanding of data lineage concepts, data modeling, and ETL processes.
  • Experience with data visualization and lineage tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Collibra, Informatica, Alation).
  • Familiarity with U.S. regulatory reporting frameworks and requirements.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, regulated environment.
