The Role
Moderna continues to leverage its novel mRNA platform to expand the R&D portfolio and open new therapeutic applications for mRNA across diseases and therapeutic areas. R&D Strategy plays a crucial role for Moderna to achieve its mission to deliver the greatest possible impact to people through mRNA medicines by supporting critical research and development decisions.
The R&D Strategy team operates across research and development to provide analysis and guidance from discovery through development, including:
Program Strategy to provide a scientific and business assessment of discovery concepts and novel applications of mRNA
Portfolio Strategy to assess acceleration options, expansion opportunities and set portfolio prioritization and sequencing
Special strategy topics to provide guidance on complex R&D questions
The Associate Director, Early Pipeline Forecasting, reporting to Sr. Director, Program & Portfolio Modeling, will play a crucial role in leading quantitative analytics and modeling to shape Program and Portfolio decision-making. This role will entail creating and maintaining market and program forecasts for discovery through phase 1 programs and extracting insights to shape program and therapeutic area strategies. These activities will require cross-functional collaboration with R&D Strategy, Commercial, Research, Development and other relevant functions.
Here’s What You’ll Do
Build revenue forecasts for discovery through phase 1 programs across all therapeutic areas to enable program, therapeutic area and portfolio decision-making
Lead collection of cross-functional input and expertise to refine program and market assumptions
Leverage primary and secondary data and insights to refine and test program commercial assumptions and hypotheses
Develop scenario and uncertainty analyses to illustrate and enable planning for multiple market and program outcomes
Develop innovative solutions to enable more efficient and accurate early-pipeline forecasting
Lead assessment of external data sources and tools and manage vendors
Here’s What You’ll Need (Minimum Qualifications)
6+ years of experience working for a pharmaceutical/biotech company in forecasting, analytics or strategy, or similar experience in a professional services or investment capacity (e.g., life sciences consulting, investment banking, private equity, or venture capital)
MS or PhD preferred, with an understanding of drug development and value creation in the biopharmaceutical industry, and commitment to learn about the science behind our platform technology
Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications)
Ability to perform and synthesize in-depth analyses of indications, products, and therapeutic areas, to integrate analysis and broader context into a recommendation, and to defend recommendation in a respectful, objective manner
Proficiency in building models for the pharmaceutical/biotech industry
Experience in programming languages beyond Excel (e.g., Python)
Exposure to advanced analytical/ modeling capabilities
Experience using databases and third-party data sources
Experience with key primary research methodologies
Advanced verbal and written communication skills to communicate across levels and to various audiences
