The Department

Strategic Advisers, LLC (Mutual fund analysis and asset allocation) is a registered investment advisor and wholly owned subsidiary of FMR LLC that provides investment management services to clients through Fidelity’s retail and institutional distribution channels. For more than 25 years Strategic Advisers has specialized in the design, construction, and management of asset allocation solutions, as well as the methodologies for many of Fidelity’s investment planning tools, to help investors reach their financial goals. With close to $901 billion in assets under management in a blend of Fidelity and third-party investment vehicles, the Strategic Advisers team of investment professionals’ constructs and manages asset allocation portfolios for 3.22 million customer accounts.

 

Fundamental Research

SAI’s Fundamental Research team consists of approximately 28 Analysts and Associates organized by asset class teams of US Equity, International Equity, Fixed Income, and Alternatives.  The team actively researches a broad universe of investment strategies including institutional mandates, mutual funds, and ETFs in which we invest on behalf of our clients to achieve their investment objectives.

 

The Position

This program recruits talented, industrious Research Associates to support SAI’s investment process and train them with the foundational skills to launch successful careers in investing.  You will have a role on the Fundamental Manager Research Team supporting research across the following investment areas: US Equity, International Equity, Alternatives, Fixed Income, and Sustainable Investing. 

 

We will train you to creatively evaluate investment managers through the analysis of performance, quantitative risk factors, portfolio characteristics, and underlying holdings.  In close collaboration with senior team members, associates will participate in meetings with investment managers, sell-side strategists, and other market participants.  Our investment process is collaborative in nature and successful associates will interact regularly with senior analysts and portfolio managers on asset class projects and thematic research. 

 

Your participation in the Research Associate program may last up to four years.  Associates who demonstrate excellent performance have historically been promoted to the Analyst position or have gone on to attend top business schools.

 

Rotations across asset class teams

  • Exposure to the different asset classes through rotations with our Research Analyst teams in Fixed Income, US Equity, International Equity, and Alternative Investments (i.e., hedge funds)
  • Opportunity to present analysis and recommendations to senior members of SAI’s investment team
  • Frequent opportunities to participate in meetings with best-in-class Fidelity and external investment managers
  • Mentorship and networking opportunities with PMs, Research Analysts, and senior leaders

 

Qualifications

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • High levels of integrity.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and quantitative skills.
  • A good teammate, collaborator and relationship builder that can also work independently.
  • Results-oriented and intellectually curious; seeks out additional responsibilities and learning opportunities.
  • Validated interest and/or work experience related to the financial markets and/or sustainable investing.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills are preferred.
  • Progress toward CFA/CAIA preferred

Training

  • Emphasis on hands-on training from Research Analysts directly related to intern projects 
  • Mentorship from senior research analysts and associates
  • Exposure to Portfolio Managers and investment thought leaders
