Role description:

Arcadis is looking to hire an Electrical Engineer with Project Management experience (EE/PM) to support Places Design & Engineering (D&E), which is directly serving our client's facility near Wilmington, NC. The duration is two years, with a likely extension to a third year or more. You will provide direct support to this project site.
As an EE/PM, you will report to work for our client daily.   You’ll also work with the Arcadis Places D&E electrical team of 30 design staff who will support you remotely.  You will lead the electrical discipline of multiple concurrent projects through the pursuit, proposal, design, and construction phases, acting on behalf of our client.  You’ll also maintain software models of our client's power distribution system and perform arc flash studies regularly.

Role accountabilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain electrical systems and components to required specifications, focusing on safety, quality, and sustainability.
  • Conduct site inspections and surveys to ensure compliance with electrical codes and standards.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve electrical issues in facility systems and equipment.
  • Collaborate with other engineers, technicians, and maintenance staff to ensure the smooth operation of electrical systems.
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs for electrical systems and equipment.
  • Prepare technical drawings, specifications, and documentation for electrical projects.
  • Manage electrical projects from conception through to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Ensure all electrical installations and maintenance activities adhere to safety regulations and company policies.
  • Evaluate and recommend energy-efficient solutions and technologies to reduce operational costs.
  • Provide technical support and training to facility staff on electrical systems and safety procedures.
  • Stay updated with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices in electrical engineering.
  • Collect and review existing electrical system documentation, including single-line diagrams, equipment specifications, and maintenance records.
  • Conduct site visits to gather detailed information on electrical equipment, including ratings, settings, and configurations.
  • Perform a detailed analysis of the electrical distribution system to identify potential arc flash hazards.
  • Calculate incident energy levels and arc flash boundaries for various equipment and scenarios using specialized software tools
  • Develop and validate electrical models to simulate fault conditions and predict arc flash incident energy.
  • Identify and document areas where arc flash protection is required, including labeling equipment with appropriate hazard warnings.
  • Recommend engineering controls, protective devices, and procedural changes to mitigate arc flash risks.
  • Prepare comprehensive arc flash study reports, including findings, recommendations, and compliance with relevant standards (e.g., NFPA 70E, IEEE 1584).
  • Collaborate with facility management and safety personnel to implement recommended safety measures and ensure compliance.
  • Provide training and guidance to facility staff on arc flash hazards, safety practices, and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Update and maintain arc flash study documentation and ensure it reflects any changes in the electrical system or facility operations.
  • Stay current with industry standards, regulations, and best practices related to arc flash safety and electrical engineering.
     

Qualifications & Experience:

  • BS in electrical engineering with 5 years’ minimum experience in consulting engineering, performing facility design.
  • Professional Engineering Licensure in North Carolina.
  • Competent presentation and communication skills.
