Job Summary:

Analyze financial information and prepare finance reports to determine or maintain record of assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liability, or other financial activities within the Department in regards to DCS CHP funding.

The purpose of this position is to maintain DCS CHP financial records for the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and reconciliations including financial information submitted to the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS). The position applies Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and numerous accounting standards including Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) standards to ensure that the Department financial statements and schedules are prepared accurately and timely. This position includes use of data downloads and reports from the State of Arizona's accounting system, AZ360, to identify and resolve any issues before the end of DCS CHP's fiscal year.

This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

Job Duties:
  • Prepares DCS CHP quarterly financial reporting package and various supplementary schedules including account analysis schedules with variance explanations and footnotes. Assists the CFO with the preparation of annual audited financial statements. Maintains reconciliation of cash and other reconciliations as required.
  • Uses automated accounting systems and applications to retrieve and review data files, analyze information, track revenues and expenditures and creates journal entries, maintains a trial balance and quarterly prepares trend analysis of accounts.
  • Using fully adjudicated encounter data retrieved from the AHCCCS server, this position updates and maintains reconciliation of the DCS CHP Subcontracted Health Plan Costs to Reimbursement Reconciliation (aka the Profit Corridor reconciliation)
  • Collects monthly financial data to assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements. Performs closing of the general ledger, maintains Access databases, participates in the annual process of closing out the State's fiscal year, assists other units within DCS CHP and the Department as requested.
  • Applies critical thinking to the resolution of questions and concerns that arise during the preparation and review of financial data.
