The Role at a Glance
We are excited to bring on highly motivated Short Term Disability Claims Specialists to staff our ever-growing claims organization.
As a Short Term Disability Claims Specialist, you will be responsible for conducting initial and ongoing interviews with claimants, obtaining, and reviewing medical records and making timely and ethical claim determinations. You’ll complete a thorough training to develop new skills and give you the confidence you need to be successful in your new role. What you'll be doing
- You will communicate with claimants, employers and various medical professionals through phone and e-mail to gather information regarding the Short-Term Disability claim.
- You will collaborate with fellow case managers, nursing case managers and consulting physicians to make appropriate and timely claim determinations.
- You will review complex medical records and effectively leveraging a variety of tools and resources to understand appropriate approval durations and future action planning
- You will complete accurate financial calculations consistent with company and state guidelines.
- You will provide exceptional customer service and proactively recognize customer needs and areas of opportunity.
- You will identify and recommend process improvements and organizational initiatives to positively influence the team and quality.
What we’re looking for
Must-have experience (Required):
- High School diploma or GED.
- 1-2 years of experience in claims, leaves or customer service.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organization skills with the ability to multi-task.
- Ability to work with others in a fast-paced, team environment.
- Ability to quickly learn complex systems and product knowledge.
- Ability to navigate through multiple systems/databases/platforms/software while engaging in customer conversations.
- Ability to be adaptable/flexible as business needs change.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Must-have capabilities:
- Must have internet bandwidth of 12 Mbps (Megabits per second). Preferred bandwidth is 25 Mbps to perform at full capacity.

Nice-to have Experience (Preferred):
- Experience with disability and/or absence management.
- Strong mathematical skills for payment calculations
- Previous remote/work from home experience.
- Passion for helping, servicing and educating others and the desire to build rapport during each interaction.
- Ability to research and problem solve, while providing outstanding customer service.
