About the role
Summary
The Staff Scientist will lead projects related to Alzheimer's disease that are funded by NIH, particularly on understanding how lysosomes are changed during aging and in Alzheimer's disease conditions. This requires the use of human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and different them into various brain cells such as neurons, astrocytes and microglia, and perform molecular, biochemical, and cell biological analyses.
Job Duties
- Lead independent research projects.
- Develop and characterize human iPSC lines related to Alzheimer's disease and investigate the key processes during disease progression.
- Utilize the following techniques: CRISPR/CAS9 mutagenesis, qPCR, transfection, infection, Western blotting, immunostaining, and flow cytometry.
- Support projects conducted by other investigators in the laboratory by providing the iPSC lines, and assisting with flow cytometry work.
- Train lab personnel on how to culture, differentiate, and characterize the iPSC lines.
- Create and present presentations at lab meetings and local and national conferences, prepare manuscripts for publication, and train rotation students.
- Perform other job related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Doctoral Degree. Experience may not be substituted in lieu of degree.
- Three years of post doctoral research experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D.
- Experience with iPSC work and with biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology
