Principal Data Scientist

Overview 

The Data Intelligence Center of Excellence is looking for a high-performing Principal Data Scientist to deliver advanced analytics and machine learning tools for use in Blackbaud products.  The principal data scientist will collaborate closely with the data science team, engineering team, and product managers to design and deliver intelligent solutions.   

Key Responsibilities 

• Collaborate with Product Managers, Data Scientists, and Engineers to develop and implement intelligent solutions to solve complex customer problems 

• Lead discussions with stakeholders to define the business problem, conduct data discovery, and clarify key outcomes and requirements 

• Design, develop, and deploy Machine Learning code and pipelines 

• Identify and address areas for improvement through the application of automated processes 

• Improve predictions through iterative testing, monitoring, and measurement 

• Participate in team planning and backlog grooming for the data science roadmap 

• Present key findings and insights to technical and non-technical audiences at various levels of the organization. 

• Mentor other team members in data science methodologies and participate in cross-team trainings 

• Stay abreast of the latest advancements in data and AI technologies, suggesting new capabilities to incorporate into the AI platform 

• Participate in thought leadership through research, articles, presentations, and collaboration with Blackbaud Institute partners 

Qualifications 

• 5+ yrs experience performing quantitative analysis 

• Extensive experience with supervised machine learning 

• Experience with data analysis in Python, R or similar language 

• Demonstrated experience influencing business decisions and driving business value 

• Ability to work independently and take initiative with little oversight  

Nice to Have 

• Experience with time series modeling, Natural Language Processing, unsupervised learning methods 

• Experience with Databricks and mlflow 

• Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI)  

• Experience with Generative AI and Agentic AI 

• Experience with Big Data
