Primary Job Goal:  Provide occupational therapy services to student as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Determine the need for skilled occupational therapy intervention by evaluating students using standardized and/or non-standardized assessment tools, based on deficits affecting their ability to access their curriculum and make progress on IEP goals/objectives.                        
• Interpret evaluation results to teachers, parents/guardians, and other authorized personnel.
• Collaborate in development of Individual Educational Program (IEP) or 504 Accommodation Plan for eligible students.                                                                                             
• Provide occupational therapy services in accordance with the IEP or 504 Accommodation Plan.
• Research, recommend, obtain, and train students, staff, and parents/guardians on the use of necessary adaptive equipment and specific physical needs of the student.                                          
• Provide educational in-service/training to authorized personnel regarding classroom and school-wide intervention strategies/techniques and policies and procedures related to occupational therapy.
• Develop, maintain, and interpret occupational therapy records and reports, including Medicaid documentation.           
• Supervise Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTA) in accordance with the rules of Georgia State Board of Occupational Therapy.                                                                                   
• Perform ongoing evaluation of a students’ progress to determine continued need for occupational therapy services based on data collection, informal/formal assessments, or changes in medical status.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Must have graduated from an approved and accredited program of occupational therapy (Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education – ACOTE), typically with either a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, and have passed the certification examination administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).                                                                                                                             
• Must have or be eligible to obtain a license to practice in the state of Georgia, according to the Georgia State Practice Act (Occupational Therapy).  Professional licensure is maintained through completion of 24 hours of continuing education courses per two-year cycle, and approval of the Georgia State Licensing Board for Occupational Therapy.                                                                                                                   
• Ability to work well with teachers, school administrative teams, and district office leadership.      
• Must possess a proven track record of building and maintaining strong professional relationships.

• Ability to abide by the Georgia Professional Standards Code of Ethics for Educators.
• Must be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work.  Must be able to be present at the physical worksite.
• Ability to perform tasks involving prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting.
• Ability to perform routine physical activities such as bending, lifting, and pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds.
• Vision, hearing, written, and verbal communication skills are essential factors in performing essential tasks.
