Summary

This position will be located in Las Vegas or Carson City, depending on the candidate chosen. 

The Department of Employment, Training & Rehabilitation (DETR) is the state’s leading workforce development agency. It consists of divisions that offer workforce related services, job placement and training, services for people with disabilities, investigation of claims of discrimination, unemployment insurance benefits, labor market data and more. Many of these services are provided through EmployNV Career and Business Hubs and in cooperation with its community partners. The Deputy Staff Attorney represents the Employment Security Division (ESD) and advises the Administrator on legal matters pertaining to workforce and Unemployment Insurance issues.


Examples of duties

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university and graduation from an accredited law school is required, as is membership in the State Bar of Nevada. Please attach two writing samples, no more than 10 pages, to your application.

Qualifications

Reporting to the Senior Legal Counsel, the successful candidate will prepare briefs and other responsive pleadings for Petitions for Judicial Review to the district courts throughout Nevada and the Nevada Supreme Court; attend court hearings; review Public Records Requests and subpoenas for compliance; draft regulations on behalf of the Division; and advise the Administrator on legal issues pertaining to the Division. While these are the major responsibilities, the successful candidate will be expected to perform other job-related duties and may be required to develop additional specific job-related knowledge and skills.
