Principal Firmware Engineering Manager

We in SCHIE’s Firmware & Software Center of Excellence create the foundational firmware that powers the Microsoft Cloud. Our firmware lights up millions of servers and racks across the globe, enabling users to do everything from running blogs to crunching through powerful AI algorithms. We’re a growing team of diverse, talented & passionate engineers inventing and delivering technology to light up the “world’s computer!” 

We are looking for a Principal Firmware Engineering Manager to lead our Firmware Architecture team in the US. You will lead a talented team of Firmware Architects who architect and design a variety of Firmware Solutions for Azure. Besides people management, you have experience with SoC Architecture and Design, SoC bring-up, and creation of solutions that lie at the intersection of multiple subsystems across firmware and hardware.

Responsibilities

• You will be involved with all phases of product development, from inception, to microarchitecture design through firmware architecture and development, deployment and beyond. 

• At the design phase, you will be part of a team driving the architecture, design and development of the various sub-systems including firmware development of low-level hardware interfaces and define flows for boot flows of ASICs.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

• 5+ years of experience building and leading an Engineering team. 

• Experience with working from early concept of SoC Architecture, designing, and delivering on new technologies across the entire platform.

• Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
