Water Treatment Process Operator - Marshall, MN
Job SummaryMonitor, test, and control the treatment of water and the waste water, assuring the quality of water for use and quality of water discharge.
Essential Job Functions
- Monitor the waste water and fresh water systems to insure that processes are operating safely, efficiently, and effectively under direction of the utilities supervisor and shift supervisor.
- Make adjustments to controls as required insuring that processing is consistent with MPCA (including NPDES permits and city agreements) and plant specifications.
- Perform all associated process testing and records results, including but not limited to sample collection, CBOD, TTS, PH, Dissolved O2, Temperature Monitoring, Sludge Management/ Content Testing, Salts Testing, Water Treatment- Solid Contact Treatment Clarification, and Reverse Osmosis Testing.
- Monitors effluent parameters and notifies the operator of any concerns.
- Assists in training and cross-training to develop a team oriented environment.
- Ensures that repairs, maintenance, and preventative maintenance work is completed. My have to perform light maintenance.
- Work closely with day operator and other operators on shift to communicate and coordinate tasks which must be completed.
- Support Area Superintendent, Supervisor, and Management in their contact with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency.
- Conduct daily audits of chemical usage to insure that all systems are operating accurately.
- Perform sanitation and housekeeping duties of work are as needed.
- Perform duties in a safe manner, utilizing all approved safety equipment, and successfully completes all safety certification requirements.
- May perform reasonably similar or related duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED (preferred).
- Complete all required safety training also follow and display knowledge of all safety procedures.
- Have a general understanding of how to use a computer and email.
- Communicate effectively through speech and writing along with other mediums such as email.
- Must stay motivated and show initiative to complete tasks under limited supervision.
- Display quality work through strong attention to detail.
- Work overtime as necessary, including some weekends
- Ability to distinguish colors in order to accurately perform water treatment tests.
- Work with a team orientation by coordinating efforts with colleagues to complete tasks effectively.
- Meet requests of supervision including but not limited to the essential functions listed.
- Utilize all equipment such as DCS panel, computer, process equipment, laboratory testing equipment, forklifts, or any other equipment for its created purpose.
- Able to meet physical requirements and perform duties in working conditions listed below.
- Rotating shift- average of 42 hours a week
- Duties performed inside and outside
- May be exposed to extreme temperatures and humid conditions
- Atmosphere exposure: fumes, odors, dust, poor ventilation, and gas.
- Hazard exposure: mechanical, electrical, chemical, explosive, and heat.
- Protective Clothing Required: Hardhat, earplugs, safety glasses, steel-toed shoes/ boots, gloves, face mask, and chemical suits.
- Ability to ascend/ descend many flights of stairs or ladders.
- Move or lift up to 50 lbs.
- Lifting may consist of: dragging or carrying hoses, carrying pails of material or chemicals, lifting filters or other production materials.
- Position self to conduct work at various heights and positions.
- Be on feet walking/ moving around majority of typical work day.
- Repetitive use of feet through occasional operation of forklift/ skid loader.
- Speech, vision, smell, touch, and hearing all needed senses to communicate effectively, recognize process upsets, and identify possible safety threats
