Basic Function
This position supports and works together with its supervisor, Americas Regional Lead Recover and other C&LC functions in the identification, evaluation and implementation of specific opportunities to support Lyondellbasell’s medium-to-long term Circular & Low Carbon Solutions feedstock, advanced sorting and mechanical recycling growth strategy in prioritized hubs. This includes generation of the business case and value offering, direct participation (leadership) in the appropriate transaction process as well as performing various activities (described below) during the different phases of the implementation.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Develop a strong knowledge of the strategic regional plastic waste and mechanical recycling landscape, industry structure, market trends and competitive dynamics.
- Apply knowledge of markets, customers, products, technology, manufacturing and feedstock positions and sustainability/circular economy topics to formulate and drive the LYB CL&C strategic growth agenda.
- Regular interface with Regional and Global C&LC Commercial Development, Chemical Recycling, and Strategy Teams, including participation with the C&LC Solutions Management in the Business strategy formulation process.
- Identify, source and evaluate specific internal or external, organic or inorganic, wholly-owned or JV opportunities for C&LC from a strategic, go-to-market perspective, including greenfield investments, acquisitions, joint ventures, commercial partnerships and other special projects.
- Lead development of data-driven investment thesis, business case and evaluation criteria to establish relative attractiveness for ranking and selection as part of opportunity pipeline in coordination with C&LC PMO.
- Prepare and present documentation, reporting and approval requests to Senior Leadership to advance strategic opportunities in line with C&LC governance model.
- Develop and nurture strategic relationships with key (senior) partner stakeholders building both trust and towards developing a shared growth vision
- Lead the LYB project team throughout the entire transaction process for opportunities approved by Senior Leadership to be pursued. This will include compilation of a feasibility study, financial model analysis support, formation and leadership of multi-disciplinary deal teams and will involve “front-line” negotiation of deal terms opposite relevant external partner stakeholders
- Work with in-house or third party legal to draft and/or execute various Transaction “Definitive Agreements” such as MOU/LOI, JV Agreement, Project Management / Cost Sharing Agreements, Feedstock- / Marketing Offtake Agreements, Sales & Purchase Agreements etc for approval by key stakeholders incl. relevant government authorities in case of a Wholly owned venture
- Support, assist and coordinate with C&LC Business Opportunity Managers incl. JV parties, relevant LYB functions, government authorities and other key stakeholders, as required, during the initial establishment phase of the venture company until its successful commercial start-up. May also include participation in the project management of the venture during its EPC, commissioning and commercial start-up process.
Min. Qualifications
- 4-year university degree (Bachelor's Degree) - Technical Degree preferred
- Advanced degree such as an MBA preferred
- 10+ years Business Development and Leadership experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Waste Management, Sorting and Recycling of Plastics sector
- Chemical / Process Industries sector in the sustainability and circularity space
- Investment Banking/Analysis, Consulting, Valuation, Corporate Development
- Deal Advisory or Transaction structuring/execution
- Financial analysis, Industry and Company research
- Business - / Sales- Leadership
- Willingness to travel (>25%) as required

- Transaction Management - Proven experience and demonstrated success leading a cross functional team, including in a "first chair" role leading a joint venture, acquisition, or development of a major infrastructure project.
- Commercial Mindset – Ability to effectively structure, negotiate transactions and help identify and resolve issues with complex transactions. Proven execution capabilities are key.
- Relationship Building-Proven experience and demonstrated success in developing collaborative, strategic relationships and building trust with senior stakeholders at partner companies. Must exhibit confident and persuasive communication skills as well as a strategic mindset.
