Position Overview: TORCH is looking to fill the position of Research Technician 3 in the laboratory of Dr. Carbone. As the director of the James Thoracic Center, Dr. Carbone has a research lab and mentors’ multiple PI’s. He also participates in many collaborative research and clinical projects. Together we make up the Thoracic Oncology Research Collaborative Hub (TORCH). Our group focuses on lung cancer research and translational therapeutics, including immunotherapies.
This position will provide support to senior lab members that support the Carbone lab specifically, and TORCH more broadly. Animal work will be the primary focus of this position.

Training provided:
- Hands-On Training:
- As a new employee in TORCH, you will receive hands-on training in essential molecular biology techniques such as RNA/DNA/Protein extraction, Western Blotting, PCR genotyping, bacterial cloning, cell culture, and mouse work depending on the needs of the project(s) assigned.
- Once you have received the standard training we will support and provide the training required for specific projects to which you are assigned.
- Compliance and regulatory training:
- There are regulatory and compliance-based trainings that differ depending on work being done. These trainings are required before any work may begin.
- This can be either computer based (CBLs) or in-person trainings.
- There are regulatory and compliance-based trainings that differ depending on work being done. These trainings are required before any work may begin.
Requirements:
- The wet lab setting incorporates both basic biological and translational techniques.
- Performing and assisting with a variety of molecular biology techniques, including protein/DNA/RNA isolations, Western blots, PCR techniques, bacterial cloning etc.
- Preparing samples for flow cytometry and cell sorting, including spectral flow cytometry
- Performing a large variety of cell culture techniques, including primary cell culture, generating new cell lines, and processing tissue (human and murine) into single cell suspensions
- Processing human blood samples and isolating human immune cell subtypes.
- Animal Work Responsibilities
- Maintains animal colony and implements breeding schemas as directed.
- Monitoring animal health
- Performing a variety of procedures on mice, including injections (IP and subcutaneous), bleeding, oral gavage, weighing, handling, ear tagging, ear punching, euthanasia, etc.
