Data Engineer III:

The Expedia Security & Privacy (ESP) team ensures that Expedia Group is safe, trusted and secure. As part of this goal, our Security Software Engineering team is seeking a talented Data Engineer III who can lead our work around the Security Data Warehouse. This is a new team within ESP that will partner with fellow data engineers, software engineers, and other cross-functional groups. As a Data Engineer III in this team, you will be the subject matter expert in how this team evolves over time and how the Security Data Warehouse is utilized and optimized going forward.

What you’ll do:

  • Data Pipeline Development: Design, build, and maintain data pipelines to ingest, process, and transform data from various sources into usable formats for analytics and reporting

  • Data Modeling: Develop and maintain data models, ensuring data consistency, accuracy, and efficiency

  • Data Integration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate data from different sources and systems

  • Data Warehousing: Work on data warehousing solutions, optimize query performance, and ensure scalability

  • ETL (Extract, Transform, Load): Create ETL processes using SQL (advanced level) to clean, transform, and load data into data warehouses or other storage systems

  • Big Data Technologies: Utilize technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, and related tools for handling and processing large datasets

  • Utilize technologies such as AWS Redshift, EC2, SQS, Spark, and related tools for handling and processing large datasets

  • Working experience in massively parallel processing (MPP) databases

  • Data Quality Assurance: Implement data quality checks, monitor data pipelines, and address any issues or discrepancies

  • Optimization: Identify opportunities for performance and efficiency improvements in data processing and storage

  • Documentation: Maintain documentation for data pipelines, models, and processes

  • Collaboration: Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders to understand their data requirements and provide data solutions

  • Security and Compliance: Ensure data security and compliance with relevant data protection regulations and company policies

  • Mentoring: Provide guidance and mentorship to junior data engineers and team members

Who you are:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering)

  • 5 years of experience as a Data Engineer, with a strong background in data pipeline development, ETL processes, and data modeling

  • Proficiency in programming languages like Python, SQL, and experience with MPP database technologies (e.g., Redshift, Teradata, Netezza, Oracle Exadata)

  • Strong knowledge of big data technologies (AWS Redshift, Spark, etc.)

  • Familiarity with cloud-based data platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)

  • Experience with data warehousing solutions (e.g., Redshift, Snowflake)

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work with non-technical stakeholders

  • Knowledge of data governance and data security best practices

The total cash range for this position in Seattle is $128,500.00 to $180,000.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $205,500.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience.  Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
