The Athletics Accounting Specialist supports the daily financial and administrative functions of the Athletics business office by performing routine accounting functions. Prepares and posts recurring journal entries, reconciles accounts, audits transactions, and prepares reports. Job Description
Typical duties include but are not limited to:
- Processes, codes, and posts routine accounting transactions including travel reimbursements, invoices, check requests, p-card charges, expense reports, and spend authorizations at both the University and Foundation levels.
- Balances and reconciles accounting records, including reconciliation of travel charges related to NCAA Official Visits.
- Receives and processes cash, checks, credit cards, and electronic fund transactions, records transactions, audits cash collection documentation, and posts journal entries within Workday and Athletics Marketplace.
- Audits, processes, and records refund transactions to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Collaborate with the Ticket Office, Marketing, and Development units to ensure accurate revenue recording and timely deposit of funds.
- Processes vendor and independent contractor documentation, ensuring completeness and compliance with institutional requirements.
- Assists in the preparation of financial summaries and data analysis for senior leadership and annual NCAA financial reporting.
- Prepares routine financial reports and statements in support of departmental operations.
- Performs other administrative and operational duties as assigned to support the overall operations of the Athletics Department.
- Ensures transactions are in compliance with policies, procedures, and business processes.

Required Qualifications for Athletics Accounting Specialist I:
- This position requires a high school diploma and four years of full-time experience directly related to the job functions.
- Experience with general accounting procedures.
- Experience operating a personal computer and proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
Required Qualifications for Athletics Accounting Specialist II:
- This position requires a high school diploma and six years of full-time experience directly related to the job functions.
- Experience operating a personal computer and proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Experience with general accounting procedures.
- Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices.
- Knowledge of general office procedures.
- Knowledge of or ability to learn Workday, Banner or similar enterprise financial management software application.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects.
- Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
- Ability to interact in a professional manner with staff, faculty, students, and the community in a service-oriented environment.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in both individual and group settings.
- Skill in organizing resources and maintaining detailed records.
- Ability to work successfully as both a member of a team and independently with minimal supervision.
