Under the guidance of the Operations Manager, the Transit Operations Supervisor oversees and coordinates the daily operations of Alexandria’s Transit Company’s (DASH) transit services from the DASH Operations Control Center (DOCC). This role ensures the safe and efficient delivery of transit services to the City of Alexandria and the immediate Washington Metropolitan area, and that exceptional customer service standards are maintained by staff. Key duties involve supervising bus operator staff, managing service impacts, responding to operational issues in real-time, and dispatching Field Supervisors to incidents as needed. Utilizes various transit software, technology, and tools to monitor and maintain functional service operations.
Additionally, the Transit Operations Supervisor provides daily guidance to Bus Operators including ensuring they are fit for duty, schedules operator work assignments, and manages hours worked, overtime, rest periods, driving durations, and spread time. Other administrative duties include issuing discipline, assisting with Operator training and onboarding, and facilitating meetings.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
- Oversees and coordinates the daily operations and services of the DASH fixed route and charter bus service from the DASH Operations Control Center (DOCC).
- Utilizes various technologies such as CAD/AVL, 2-way radio, video surveillance, dispatching software, payroll software and in house databases to effectively monitor, manage, and maintain operational services.
- Stays informed of real-time operational issues such as late arrivals, early departures, bus bunching, and detours and works to proactively and efficiently correct issues.
- Deploys Field Supervisors in response to emergencies, collisions, passenger incidents, customer service needs, and disruptions in service as needed. Coordinates with local law enforcement, emergency personnel, other officials, and keeps management informed of significant events in a timely manner.
- Regularly responds to and resolves Bus Operator issues that require troubleshooting and dispatching of road calls and vehicle swaps such as:
- Assists with mechanical bus issues or errors.
- Assists with information technology software (ITS) and onboard bus technology issues. Escalates and reports issues/defects to ITS staff for further evaluation.
- Coordinates with the maintenance department to correct vehicle defects and ensure proper fleet availability for service needs and pull-out.
