Job Description

As a Sub Section Manager – Embedded Software, you will play a pivotal role in leading a team of engineers to designing, developing, and testing Embedded Software (Firmware), platforms and systems for our mission-critical technologies and products. You will execute embedded software development while providing both technical and people leadership, fostering collaboration across engineering and business product areas to promote a unified software strategy. This role requires a strong background in embedded systems, real-time software development, and leadership experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical and people leadership to the embedded software team, ensuring responsiveness, reliability, and functionality.

  • Oversee talent management, including recruitment, staffing assessments, and project assignments.

  • Define and manage scope, cost, and schedule for team tasks, ensuring alignment with project goals.

  • Establish and monitor metrics to measure team progress and product completeness, taking corrective action as needed.

  • Utilize daily management techniques to focus on continuous improvement and align daily actions with strategic goals.

  • Evaluate and integrate emerging technologies, tools, and processes to enhance project outcomes.

  • Drive productivity improvements by identifying and implementing best practices.

  • Mentor technical teams throughout the software development life cycle, including requirements, design, implementation, verification & validation, and certification.

  • Engage with customers, product leaders, and industry stakeholders to align software development with market needs, internal R&D investment, and product/technology roadmaps.

  • Design and/or program/develop a small module or a large component, feature, set of features, whole feature area or entire embedded software product.

  • Define and execute engineering test, validation, and verification activities.

  • Validate and verify software designs in a diversity of system integration environments – from local desktop computer simulations to fully representative flight tests.

  • Create detailed design and technical documentation, optimize existing applications, and implement new features.

  • Ensure software robustness, resilience, and fail-safe operation for critical devices, mitigating potential safety and security vulnerabilities.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related STEM field from an accredited institution.

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in embedded real-time systems/software development, covering the full development life cycle.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a leadership role within an engineering setting.

  • U.S. Government contract restrictions and this posting is only for U.S. Citizens.  GE will require proof of status prior to employment.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
