Principal Data Scientist
NextRollAbout the role
You’ll join our Data & Analytics team reporting to our Sr. Director, Data & Analytics and leading the end-to-end development and deployment of MxL models—focusing on churn, retention, and LTV—and driving product insights using causal inference and experimentation for areas like targeting and bidding. As a Principal Data Scientist, you will be an individual contributor where your impact will be quantifying the business value of key initiatives, influencing product roadmaps with data-driven opportunity sizing, and operationalizing data products for personalized customer journeys. Success will require close collaboration with Engineering and Machine Learning Platform teams for scalable data pipelines and model deployment.
This role is open in San Francisco, New York City, or Remote locations.
Unsure that you check all the boxes? You should still apply! We’ll review your application for other opportunities. We're always on the lookout for talented people and we're committed to developing each employee's career with over 1,800 training classes offered every year.
The impact you’ll make:
- Lead the design, development, and deployment of ML models that predict and influence customer behavior — including churn, retention, activation, lifetime value, and lifecycle transitions.
- Build behavioral segmentation frameworks, uplift models, and propensity scoring used across product, lifecycle marketing, and account strategy.
- Drive insights for core product areas (audience targeting, measurement, bidding, onboarding, campaign performance) using a mix of causal inference, predictive modeling, and experimentation.
- Own end-to-end analytics for key initiatives: partner with Product to define success metrics, guide instrumentation, design experiments, and quantify impact.
- Design, build and deploy rigorous and statistically sound models and systems that help customers understand causal effects of their marketing strategies.
- Influence product roadmaps using quantified opportunity sizing, behavioral funnel analysis, and deep dives into customer usage patterns.
- Collaborate with Data Engineering and ML Platform teams to build scalable pipelines, datasets, and model operationalization workflows.
- Act as a technical mentor for the broader analytics and data science team; elevate scientific rigor, model quality, and best practices.
Skills you’ll bring:
- 9+ years of experience in data science, machine learning, or advanced analytics roles, ideally in a SaaS, AdTech, or MarTech environment.
- Knowledge of and experience in implementing marketing data science models such as predictive models (churn, retention, LTV), advanced segmentation and behavioral clustering.
- Skilled in causal inference techniques (e.g., synthetic controls, DiD, uplift modeling, geo-experiments, CUPED) and experimentation frameworks.
- Knowledge of ad ecosystems (RTB, attribution, identity graphs, bidding strategies, pixel events, campaign optimization, incrementality).
- Strong fluency in SQL and Python, with hands-on experience building and shipping production-grade ML models.
- Proven track record partnering with Product to define metrics, run experiments, and shape product strategy.
- Excellent data storytelling abilities — able to translate complex patterns into clear, action-oriented recommendations for cross-functional partners.
- Comfortable navigating ambiguous problem spaces and driving long-term analytical strategy.
Benefits and Perks:
- Competitive salary and equity
- We cover 100% of the employee-only premium for our HSA medical plan, and 95% of the employee-only premium for our PPO, HMO, dental, and vision plans.
