Vir Biotechnology is seeking an Executive Vice President, Program Leadership & Management, who will lead and develop a team of Program Executives and Asset Leaders who will each develop and oversee "end to end" program strategy, planning and executional imperatives for the clinical development assets in Vir's disease areas. In addition, the Project & Portfolio Management function will report into the EVP, Program Leadership & Management. This team provides project management expertise and operational support across the Vir clinical development portfolio in collaboration with their respective Program Executives or Asset Leads. The EVP, Program Leadership & Management will be a member of the Executive Management Team and will report to the CEO.
This role is located in San Francisco and required to be in the office at least 4 days per week.
Responsibilities and Learning Opportunities
- Responsible for leading a team of full-time employees and contractors within the Project Leadership and Project & Portfolio Management functions
- Accountable for Vir clinical development program performance, risk management, administration, financial management and issue resolution
- Responsible for defining and implementing the Program Executive and Asset Leader roles in line with the needs of the individual assets, broader disease area approach and the status of the portfolio
- Chair the Product Development Committee (PDC)
- Ensure Program Team and governance structures enable effective program management and efficient decision-making across Vir development portfolio
- Help prioritize lifecycle management initiatives, including evaluating the business case for additional investments across Vir's existing clinical development portfolio
- Partner with key collaborators including R&D leadership and the commercial team to identify, evaluate and prioritize new clinical development assets
- Provide scheduled (i.e., quarterly/annual reviews) and ad-hoc program status reporting to the Executive Management Team and Board of Directors, citing progress to program goals/ critical metrics, risk identification with planned mitigation(s), and providing rationale for timeline and budget variances
- Partner with Finance to support the management of all financial aspects of Vir's development programs including annual financial planning, i.e., 3-year long-range plans and 1-year budgets
Qualifications and Experience
- Preferred: Degree in a scientific field (e.g., BS, MS, PhD, PharmD, MD, DVM) or related degree with meaningful cross-functional program/project leadership experience.
- Solid understanding of drug development process, regulatory and business requirements
- Demonstrated ability in R&D, Clinical Development, Program Leadership & Management and/or Corporate Planning in the life sciences industry
- Combines attention to detail with big-picture strategic perspective and enterprise mindset
- Ability to synthesize information from multiple sources, communicate ideas and data both verbally and written in a persuasive and appropriate manner
- Proven financial, budget and resource planning experience
The expected salary range for this position is $350,000.00 to $425,000.00. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors.
