Position Summary:
The Director/Sr. Director of FP&A will play a critical role in driving the financial strategy and performance of the organization. This position will be responsible for leading the financial planning, forecasting, budgeting, and analysis functions to support the company's strategic objectives and operational goals. The position will also play a leadership role within the broader finance organization and manage specific activities within the corporate finance and treasury functions. The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry and possess strong leadership, analytical, and strategic planning skills. This role will report to the VP, Finance and Corporate Controller and will work closely with cross-functional partners across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Planning & Analysis: Lead the annual budgeting, quarterly forecasting, and long-term financial planning processes. Develop and maintain comprehensive financial models and perform scenario analysis to support strategic decision-making and resource allocation.
- Strategic Partnering: Act as a strategic partner to senior leadership, providing financial insights and recommendations to support key business decisions. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D, Clinical, and G&A functions to align financial plans with business objectives.
- Performance Management: Establish robust internal reporting processes to track company performance. Deliver comprehensive variance analysis, actionable insights, and partner with key business leaders to drive performance improvement.
- Treasury: Establish process for ongoing cash forecasting and monitoring. Assist with management of investment portfolio in line with the Company’s Investment Policy and in response to short, medium, and long-term operating needs.
- Capital Allocation: Assist with capital planning and investment evaluation, including evaluating the return on investment of new programs or initiatives, assessing financial risks, and advising on the viability of acquisitions, partnerships, and other M&A activity. Advise on the liquidity aspects and impact to financing strategy of potential investment opportunities or strategic initiatives.
- Financial Systems & Processes: Enhance and streamline financial systems, tools, and processes to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability. Implement best practices in financial planning and analysis.
Other Responsibilities and Projects:
- Lead or participate in special projects including system implementations, process improvement efforts, diligence activities, and as the finance representative in company-wide or cross functional initiatives.
- Work directly with the CFO and VP, Finance to prepare updates for the Board of Directors and Executive Committee, including the preparation of Board materials.
- Develop key materials in collaboration with senior leadership in preparation for analyst events, investor presentations, earnings calls, and other public disclosures.
Requirements
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. MBA, CFA, and/or CPA preferred
- 8+ years of progressive experience in a FP&A capacity, including leadership experience with scaling the function in complex, high growth companies
Other Qualifications:
- Experience in early-stage life sciences a plus
- Strong financial modeling and analytical skills
- Proficiency with financial software and ERP systems
- Excellent organizational skills, ability to prioritize, and strong attention to detail
- Self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, and is comfortable managing change and ambiguity
- Demonstrated ability to influence and collaborate
