Mountain View Hospital is looking for a Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our team!

JOB SUMMARY:       

Performs the daily activities related to Chemistry, Blood Bank, Hematology, Microbiology and/or Immunology. Ensures the validity of test results by performing calibrations, quality controls, and routine maintenance on all analyzers and manual tests. Provide excellent customer service on the phone and in person, to patients, physicians, and other medical staff.  Must work well under pressure, troubleshoot analyzers and equipment, prioritize specimens (STAT, Urgent, Routine, etc.), multitask, and be flexible in order to accommodate laboratory needs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Performs routine laboratory test procedures as outlined in the laboratory standard operating procedure manuals and reports test results.  Adheres to quality assurance and quality control procedures in performing all testing.
  2. Correlates clinical information and/or previous lab results and reports discrepancies to the Department Lead or Laboratory Supervisor.  Consults with the Department Lead or Laboratory Supervisor when no preset criterion for decision-making is available before taking action.
  3. Collects and directs the collection of specimens with rigid attention to proper patient identification, priority status and hospital and laboratory safety and infection control policies for clinical testing
  4. Maintains and operates lab equipment; able to detect malfunctions as they occur by review of instruments results. Troubleshoots the problem with technologist or service representative assistance
  5. Ensures appropriate lab supplies are always on hand in their assigned area or department
  6. May be rotated to other lab departments or shifts as necessary (Chemistry, Blood Bank, Hematology/Coagulation, and Microbiology)
  7. Trains or instructs laboratory personnel in performance of lab tests and procedures where assigned
  8. Participates in established Quality Management activities, QC testing of lab reagents and maintenance of equipment.  Follows protocol for running and documenting control values.  Collects, evaluates, and reports quality management data in order to monitor and improve laboratory performance
  9. Attends and participates in continuing education programs to monitor proficiency, expand current knowledge and enhance professional excellence.  Willingly shares knowledge and provides clinical orientation to other members of the lab team.
  10. Trains students from affiliated programs or new employees as assigned
  11. Works closely with all laboratory personnel to ensure timely client service and accurate test results
  12. Participates in Job Competency/Skills Check program
