Description

Job Summary Public Programs Event Staff serve a critical role in the department on event days, assisting with event set up and break down, box office and usher duties, greeting talent, green room set up, and more. Event Staff offer the highest level of customer service possible to all patrons and talent, creating a welcoming environment for all. 
Event Staff are hourly employees, and are only scheduled to work on days when there are events. Shifts are in the afternoon to evening and are typically four to six hours long, assigned on a first come, first served basis. 

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities: 
  • Greet patrons attending events presented at The New York Public Library
  • Collect or scan tickets
  • Provide patrons with programs and other relevant materials
  • Distribute assisted listening devices as requested by patrons; escort any patrons requiring seating assistance
  • Ensure performance house rules, such as entry, exit, late seating, photography etc. are adhered to, and maintain access control to performance areas
  • Notify supervisory staff and/or security staff of any emergency situations immediately as they occur
  • Assist in management of lines as patrons line up for events
  • Answer questions regarding events, tickets, and schedules
  • Assist in setting up and breaking down the box office and venue before and after the event
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills Knowledge & Expertise

Required Education and Certifications 
  • High school diploma
Required Experience
  • Customer service experience
Required Skills
  • Friendly, inquisitive, driven to help create a consistently high quality event experience
  • ​​Ability to work with a sense of urgency, proactively, resourcefully, and take initiative
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills with a focus on excellent customer service. Ability to build positive relationships with other staff. Able to communicate effectively with a wide variety of personalities and situations requiring diplomacy, tact, friendliness, poise and firmness  
  • Proven job reliability and responsibility
  • Ability to count money and make change accurately
  • Must be computer literate (email, familiarity with iPod Touch)
  • Maintain a professional, neat, and well-groomed appearance
