Kemper, a publicly traded, multi-billion dollar insurance and financial services company, seeks a talented and motivated Senior Accountant to join our Corporate Accounting team at our headquarters in downtown Chicago. This is a fantastic role for a strong performer who is looking to greatly expand their knowledge of ledgers, consolidation, and financial reporting within a multi-faceted insurance company that has exposure to SEC, GAAP, and statutory accounting. Kemper has a proven track record for developing its people for higher roles within the department as well as other functions and across its operating entities. We seek a detail-oriented professional to assist with the Corporate, P&C, and Life investment accounting for monthly, quarterly and annual accounting functions associated with Kemper’s financial reporting.

We seek a detail-oriented professional to assist with the Corporate, P&C, and Life investment accounting for monthly, quarterly and annual accounting functions associated with Kemper’s financial reporting.
Position Responsibilities:
Prepare and review monthly journal entries and general ledger reconciliations
Prepare and review various reporting schedules
Consolidate information for internal and external financial reporting
Work with internal and external auditors and provide necessary support
Prepare analytical schedules, analyze variances, and provide support for internal requests
Actively identify and complete process improvement projects
Review work of Staff Accountants and provide meaningful feedback
Create and perform ad hoc queries and analyses as needed
Minimum Requirements:
BA/BS degree in Accounting.
5-8 years of experience in corporate accounting.
Insurance / financial services experience is a plus. Investment accounting a plus.
CPA or CPA candidate preferred
Familiarity with both US GAAP and statutory accounting principles is a plus
Experience navigating a large ERP environment
Proficiency in MS Office products - intermediate to advanced knowledge of MS Excel
Experience in Workday and Blackline a strong plus
Other skills:
