Job Summary

Under direct supervision, the maintenance worker will provide specialized janitorial services and maintenance work for the agency’s main administrative facility. The ideal candidate will ensure that the facility is cleaned/sanitized throughout the work day, and ensures that the facility and its grounds remain hazard free. The maintenance worker will further ensure that the facility maintains compliance with applicable building and requirements. The maintenance worker will be skilled in specific tasks, as defined below under Job Responsibilities.

Job Responsibilities 

  • Makes use janitorial equipment and supplies to maintain the cleanliness of the facility (waxing/buffing, mops, vacuum cleaners, brooms, power washers, trash compactor, etc.
  • Knowledge of cleaning/sanitizing products, including green products.
  • Cleans and sanitizes all restrooms, common areas, and offices throughout the work day, including vents, windows, windowsills, etc.
  • Initiative and judgment to identify and correct discrepancies and problems as they occur.
  • Sufficient knowledge of building trades (painting, sheetrock, plastering, etc.) to undertake repairs in these areas under direct supervision.
  • Familiarity with proper operation of electrical equipment and hand tools sufficient to carry out job tasks listed.
  • Sufficient academic and communication skills to undertake training and certification for various certificates of fitness courses.
  • Will be required to work effectively around people of varying backgrounds, as well as young children, adolescents, and the community at large.

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Two years of prior working knowledge 
  • Experience using hands and electrical tools
  • Excellent verbal, written and communication skills
  • Physical stamina and dexterity
  • A valid NYS driver license preferred
