JOB SUMMARY:  The RN AirCare Program Manager provides clinical and administrative leadership for Critical Care Transport Services, inclusive of Brenner Children’s Hospital Critical Care Transport, Adult Critical Care Transport, Mobile Integrated Health and AirCare Flight program.  Responsibilities include 24-hour accountability for the management and long-term planning of the services. This includes maintaining a professional environment through the implementation of the nursing process, staff development and collaborative team interactions for the enhancement of the quality of patient care specific to the age/development of the patient population and cost containment.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:  Graduation from an accredited school of nursing, BSN required, MSN preferred, minimum of 4 years’ experience in nursing, minimum of 2 years management experience in nursing preferred, minimum of 2 years of transport nursing experience.

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION:  Current RN licensure in good standing in the State of North Carolina, BLS required, ACLS, PALS NRP preferred, and National Certification in specialty area required within one year of hire. Certification as North Carolina or Nationally Registered Paramedic preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  1. Creates and maintains a safe and therapeutic environment for patients, self, co-workers, and facility in conjunction with Vice President, Enterprise Emergency Services and Vice President System Integration
  2. Staff Development: Provides leadership, guidance, and support to staff. Develops and fosters relationships which support the continuous enhancement of product and service delivery, and client and staff satisfaction through a professional environment of mutual respect. Facilitates resolution of conflicts and empowers staff in decision making.  Provides positive reinforcement and feedback to staff. Empowers and delegates according to the competency of staff, client and patient needs, and activity of department. Demonstrates servant leadership and serves as a role model. Ensures an environment which stimulates the ongoing professional development of staff in keeping with principles of Shared Governance and professional practice.
  3. Operations/Finance: Identifies opportunities for measurement of clinical and financial outcomes.  Is responsible for budget awareness and managing financial performance within budget expectations in conjunction with the Program Manager and Vice President, Enterprise Emergency Services and Vice President System Integration.
  4. People Management: Administers Human Resource policies:  Utilizes appropriate personnel policies for hiring, performance improvement, discipline, and termination, along with the proper forms for personnel transactions. Consults with Human Resources as appropriate. Clearly communicates performance expectations to the team.
  5. Strategy/partnerships:  Collaborates effectively throughout the organization, across markets, and with leadership, teammates, direct staff, clients, and partners by developing collegial relationships and communicating information effectively, encouraging communication and serving as a resource to the broader team.  Promotes community and referring agency outreach activities including scheduling educational events, marketing events and managing social media sites. Serve on statewide committees including North Carolina and Virginia air medical committees and NC EMS Administrators Association.
  6. Quality & Safety: Assumes primary Responsibility for maintaining one the two state office of EMS licensures (North Carolina and Virginia) including certification of all ground and air assets in assigned state. Accountability for maintaining accurate records of available assets, personnel and locations of assets in assigned state. Ensuring all state requirements for assigned state is met including upload of electronic health records, update of protocols, maintaining state Viper radio communications frequencies. Planning and participation in required quarterly peer review meetings and providing required training for EMS. Ensures employees and program meets standards for accreditation and or re-accreditation by CAMTS (Commission on Accreditation of Air Medical Transport Systems).
  7. Vendor Management: Manage program operations including collaborating with billing vendors to promote billing compliance and effectiveness for air and ground transport. Serves as program administrator for external electronic health record including maintaining employee access and collaborating with vendor to ensure required NEMSIS electronic transfer of electronic health records to North Carolina and Virginia Offices of EMS. Selects appropriate flight suit and transport uniform vendors. Purchase and maintain a minimum uniform inventory for issue to new employees at the time
